Lotta guys that grind full time are keen on multi tip, not sure but it seems you only need to sharpen 2 out of the eight teeth- done with a dremel, tooth stays on... That seems like a time saver if its correct.

100%, I run a low hp machine so Ill chase roots with semi dull teeth and then switch to sharpies for the main gig when faced with similar amount of surface roots. Another small machine tip would be that sometimes flush cutting a stump for a small machine is best left to very last thing before...

This is is exactly what happened to me. I don't chase stump work because it interferes with the flow of my regular work. I'm not currently set up to have others operate the grinder for me so any stump stump job that pops up essentially prevents me from putting on a full day that day. It doesn't...

Sounds like an ordeal- I'm sure it would have been a relief once finished. I'm surprised that a subby would want $800 for the gig-I'm sure San Fran is expensive but I think Sydney may be even more so and there's stump grinding contractors here that will run 40-60 hp machines for $900-$1100/day...

Speaking of good numbers I did about 25 mins of grinding for $450 last Friday. Was onsite for close to 2 hours including prep and clean up. It was 2 sq meters of Strelitzia (bird of paradise) which grinds like Banana Tree.

Good prices, I would sub out the bulk of the grind and then do the detail with the AM- unless I owned a larger machine.

I'd say less than 5% of my clients wish to replant in the same position as the previously removed tree - I usually ask when bidding if they seem the "gardening" type.

I figured it out rather quick :) I'm the same with depth, going deeper than nec is pretty pointless

do a full day or close to it on one of those style machines and you feel pretty rough afterwoods

^ you guys are onto it, the hazard of dust and associated toxins is real. I've knocked back a few grinding jobs where I felt asbestos could be an issue. I carry masks but with the ever increasing heat of our summers I'm rarely motivated to wear one.

Who wears a face shield when grinding? I got popped with a rock on my glasses lens today and the impact was significant... I wear sunglasses as "safeties", be good to know what sort of impacts they can withstand.

I have 4 sets on mine, the factory set up is one angled and one straight pocket at each position.
