Big dead pine has to go

At least Burnham knows what a face cut is...! It was a Radiata pine The rope was the pulling rope I set in it, didn't take much to get it free. It was my still fairly new 9/16 double braid, the new is now gone, it looks like a proper work rope now.

Big dead pine has to go

Bump....THUMP! The big dead pine is history! It went down today. I admit to not doing the felling cuts, the stump was too high for me to safely and effectively weild a 660 with a 3' bar...and even with that the cutter had to double cut it. The joy of big machinery, they had a track excavator...

... ...not! Thanks for the pics Gary, food for thought, I'll show my Mr. Fixit, he's already been scoping out poles and stuff at the hardware store to make one!

Big dead pine has to go

We cool Jed, I never thought you were making fun :) Bugger's still there, there was a lot of rain and thunder and lightning last night, then the wind made up around 5am...the big dead pine insinuated its way into the morning fog in my brain...wonder if it is shedding any bits...also a big bendy...

Big dead pine has to go

PM Burnham... Two 4' poles here will cost me about $95 plus shipping, I inquired at Wesspur as the whole unit was only $119 but shipping the long poles was too expensive. On the balance getting the poles locally is a bit cheaper than sourcing them from anywhere overseas myself. Just managing...

Big dead pine has to go

I ended up in the only spot we could get a clean shot with the bow and arrow...you all know how much I suck with a throwbag...and it wasn't a complete removal, just a branch...

Big dead pine has to go

Thanks Gerry! You all would laugh at my sometimes 'creep climb' style though...if I'm not particularly comfortable then the back of my trousers get scuffed from where I sit down and shuffle. Jed, my flipline wasn't long enough to go around this pine, and its all branchy and knobby...and the...

Big dead pine has to go

I think what kept me up there was the thought of having to come back to it another time... it was a long footlock up, then the scramble to the TIP...sh!@I was already up there, just get it done...no rigging, no targets below, just chop it and drop it. In the back of my mind were the thoughts of...

Big dead pine has to go

Job done... had to climb another 20' higher than the shot we got from the ground to get a good TIP high over the doomed branch, then I saw the backside of THAT limb, another tearout! Anyway, I got out on the one that had to go, then up into its canopy and just pieced it out bit by bit, and yes...

Big dead pine has to go

Still standing... Same property... Big broken branch in another pine, got removed, now what's left of the limb is ABOVE the most recent tear out and an old tear out that are within 2' of each other on a bend in the limb with a pressure ridge on the back... and the remainder is heavily weighted...

Big dead pine has to go

Nope... On the black wood, when I was up top piecing it out the sapwood really hangs on, you have to cut the sides or like Gerry said the pirces can go all skee-wiff! Another dead blackwood is down, two bits of the trunk went to the mill the landowners own, the rest is in our firewood pile, an...

Big dead pine has to go

Well I did some work for a friend yesterday...three blackwoods and a casuarina that had to have the canopies cut out and then felled the sticks... Oh dear, you could tell I haven't done any felling for a while...although I blame the one on unfamiliarity with a new species to me...Blackwood...

Big dead pine has to go

Got to wait for them to get the ok to drop it in the neighbour's paddock, got to wait for the Mrs. to finish with the plumbers and brickies, got to do a couple of smaller jobs first (the Mrs. HO is rather particular...) I am seriously tempted to give it a go myself...

Big dead pine has to go

How about, climb the tree tie the starter cord to a branch then drop it... My saws run pretty well for being tuned by a girl, all that porty sporty stuff is for the guys to make themselves feel...maybe I should stop digging now, because one day I might want someone to hook up my saws:D
