    Rough starting saw

I would definitely try replacing the ignition on the Jonsered, used ones may not be so pricey at ebay. Could very well be a weak or inconsistent spark or no spark. If it burps a little when trying to start, but doesn't start, I think it could well indicate a faulty ignition. Sometimes they do...

    Rough starting saw

There doesn't seem too much that can go wrong on a saw that after running it for not too long with the thought that you fixed it, it tells you that you didn't. Ignition trouble can be one exception. I don't know what's up with shops that erroneously tell you that they fixed it? At least they...

    Rough starting saw

The thing about saws is that it can take a lot of time to discover that it is a low cost item to fix. All you have basically is your labor in return, and I don't think many shops can ethically really charge much money for a couple hours labor, if they knew that where first to have looked would...

    Rough starting saw

I think it is hard to make money repairing saws, unless you have a lot of experience that will quickly inform of likely possibilities, and have the most needed to be replaced parts at your fingertips, as a rule. Labor doesn't pay very well, especially hard to sort out the problem repairs, you...

    Rough starting saw

I hear ya on the saw replacement. Without all the proper diagnostic tools it can really eat up some time and cause frustration. I recently worked on a small Zenoah that someone gave me, the third person to own it after the two previous guys gave up on getting it fixed, including having a shop...

    Rough starting saw

A new fuel filter is seldom the solution to a saw having running problems, is my experience. Respectfully, without at least looking into the carb, you shouldn't give up on a saw, unless there is no spark to indicate an ignition problem.

    Rough starting saw

I think you can figure that there must be dirt in the underground tanks at gas stations that collects over the years. I worked at a station when in high school and there was never any mention of cleaning the tanks. I don't recall if when they get pumped dry if there is still some residual gas...

    Rough starting saw

Sometimes I wonder if there might already be some dirt in pump gas?

    Rough starting saw

My experience is that other filters will work, but I haven't changed around many. I haven't ever seen a filter go bad beyond some dirt in there, aside from the one i found melted in an old saw. It looked like an old piece of chewing gum. :|:

Latin would have been "diaphragma". You know how to change one? Easy peasy.

    Rough starting saw

I'm thinking along the lines of what Al said, some problem with the carb.. It could be as simple as a stiff diaphragm. More serious problems seem to affect the way a saw runs as well, it will die or you have to keep messing with the settings, which isn't the case here. I've had fits sorting...
