It does work alright in practice, but it also adds an additional step to the whole rigamarole/clusterfrick that is aerial rescue. And I never clip the victim to me, but that's a matter we could discuss nearly endlessly, and would be better addressed in another thread, perhaps :). But your...

I know pretty much exactly what you mean, Greg. I spent most of 2000-2001 dealing with direct action protestors, and off and on thereafter for a few more logging seasons. I'm glad to see those days gone.

Yes, plugs. I often don't use the headset pair if it's just short bursts of saw use, as was the case here. I like to double up when the saw is running constantly...plus, I wanted to be able to hear at least some of the noises the structure was making as it was disassembled. USFS climbers wear...

Relatively recent, say a couple of years, up to very recent, just a few weeks. No real weird dynamics, just tighten up your life line and lanyard and cut the platform crossmembers out from under you...take a little swing.

As to the suspenders...none. You might be looking at my simple figure 8 chest harness, or you might be seeing the regular set of button mount suspenders I use instead of a belt on my Husky "saw proof" pants. They used hundreds of large nails, aka spikes...diameter of a pencil, 7 inches long.

Agreed, it is a little odd, but so far I haven't had any real trouble with it, just have to deal with it being a bit fiddly to take off.

    Spendy, but worth it imo.

It's not as much fun in the real world as one might imagine...I can unequivocably state.

Bingo. Funny how it's hard for the poor ground-dwelling lesser beings to grasp that, ain't it? :D

One of the critical parts to getting everything arranged for that release cut is having your left hand set and ready to pop the chainbrake when movement starts. In that pic, the chain is locked at that point. Absolutely zero slack in your lifeline and lanyard at the full out reach to make...

Yes. Cutting the platform out from underneath you is the safer way to get them down, believe it or not.

Brought over here from another, less related thread. Some was cut green trees, understory mountain hemlock and subalpine fir, a lot was dead snags or downed wood of the same species. The stand where these camps were located is at about 4000 feet, and is less than 100 years old...burned off...

That too, or the even more non-specific "causing resource damage". The Man with the hammer. :D

Absolutely, Greg. Should have packed it in as well...hindsight. It's a great saw, just a little screaming demon. What's the cost these days, if I can be so bold as to ask?

Oh, I forgot about one question...the one-handing is not condoned by the FS and is in direct violation of S-212 protocols. But I suspect cutting the platform out from under yourself isn't exactly within those prescribed operating perameters, either :D. That's why they call me when this sort...

First question...why the 260? You cannot imagine how much metal was in those stupid structures. The number of spikes defies belief, especially if one were to contemplate actually buying them...so I postulate theft from somewhere. Anyway, I packed in the 200T, and almost immediately trashed...
