    Trail clearing

I have, but it was usually through another organization doing that, and is worth the trouble. Boy scout eagle projects (others not mine since i dropped out when i was younger), key club, etc. I have also done work for homeowners who had a paved bike trail going through their backyard that was...

Was it used or dirty? And what brand? Or any foam plug? I've never heard of that ever, that's terrible because they're by far the most common ones around.

If they're the old school yellow cylinder ones yeah those are terrible, those will even give me headaches. The most comfy and best noise reduction ones I've ever used are the 3m earsoft neon blast ones, i can wear those all day everyday, pretty cheap too. I prefer the disposables because they're...

Explosively Dead Removal - Rig Or Bomb Out?

This. Sometimes on spreading trees over structures it's quicker to rig because you can swing large pieces, but that's only if you'll be making a ton of cuts if not. We have lots of spreading maples and similar trees, and swinging limbs can save some time over the structures, and you can even go...

Yeah i didn't know that before, and then we were working down a small city street that was torn up for new utilities. Come quitting time the guy in the 450 just whipped it around, and I'm stuck doing the Austin powers turnaround lol.

Let's say you're gonna hit a bump, with a shorter wheelbase your truck will angle up more, and you'll feel it more. Same with steering, the longer the less responsive it is, so you don't have to work as hard to keep it straight. It's a lower sensitivity to adjustments, so it's easier to keep...

The longer the wheelbase the better! I've known pipeline welders that would get a quad cab and long bed, and then cut the frame off just past the shackles to make it shorter, and then run a flatbed or custom one. That way they had the long wheelbase for driving long distance but overall it was...

Yup, which is why cab overs aren't that common over here. Easier to work on too

    Gasification and wood gas

Being the nerd that i am I've been looking into woodgas and gasification for years, and as promised here's some of the stuff I've found. Disclaimer: I'm sure i don't need to explain the hazards of attempting this stuff to people who run chainsaws while hanging on a rope everyday, but this can...

When it's gasified it's really easy to regulate, and basically works like natural gas does. I'll start a thread

They filter it and use gasifiers that make less creosote, but the best and simplest is to use charcoal like they did in ww2. They also need ample warm up time to get hot enough before they run the engine off it, and if it's a diesel they still need enough fuel to provide the ignition. If people...

    Knot thread

Yup, works just fine. That way you can tension it, and it won't go anywhere and is easy to untie. Pretty much the quickest way to secure the ends and get back to doing what needs done.

    Knot thread

It's handy and I've seen that a bunch, but I'm not a fan because it can shake loose, especially if the load shifts and the strap becomes loose. If that happens it will vibrate violently, and pipe (surprise my most common item I'm tying down) is very prone to shifting. I coil then wrap with the...

    Stripped Oiler Gear - Cause?

The pour point of canola is -9c, which means when a container of it is tipped that's the point where it doesn't even move anymore. I'm not for sure that's what caused it to strip the thread, it's just plastic after all. I didn't notice the temps when it broke, but it does hit -40 here on...
