Conditioning...if you can keep your hands and arms up and moving fast like that for minutes at a time, it's only because you have strength and stamina.
The gaff rigs that spur climbing competitors use are nothing like what a working climber has. Very specialized, and worthless to work from. Pivoting spurs mounted nearer to the toes, usually.
The rule is, fastest time wins.
You don't get demerit points, or time penalties, for arriving on the ground injured, or permanently disabled, or dead.
Just like the NFL, the NHL, or even pole vaulting :D.
