I find there is usually a lot of ash under the coals. I sweep the coals to one side and shovel the ashes out, the sweep the coals to the other side and repeat. If you had a metal container to hold the coals and had a safe place to set it down I don't see any rats. The sweep method works ok...

I have been meaning to make a mesh shovel for the purpose of saving the coals and charcoal but letting the ash fall through it. Collect the coals while you clean out the ashes and dump the coals back in.

Looks like old metal wire mesh base. Better than the kind they had before that-a fairly heavy sheet metal with holes in it. Miserable.

Osage limbs are incredibly strong. A neighboring farm had limbs put in along the road for posts. Cars would go off the road in the winter and hit a small post. Owners would be amazed the damage they did to their car.

I discovered that mulberry is related to Osage Orange. That told me a lot. Their roots are both orange. That's what gave me cause to research.

I use NOAA everday also. I found Weatherunderground recently. They have bar graphs for 10 day for wind, precip, clouds, and temp. Makes it easy to see trends. I will check weatherbug. I think the local tv channel weather promotes it.

High 30s. 25 mph wind gusting 40. Power was off this morning before light. They had it back on 40 minutes later. They finally got off their dead asses and got the bunch of dead ash that used to take the power out every time the wind blew. They knew right where to go when it went out. Job...
