How you store your gear, and whats your set up.

It's possible to spin a Toyota landcruiser around an 10x5 tandem trailer while sliding backwards. A change of underpants is required unless you are tougher than me.

    Best Climbing Helmet?

No love for the petzl alveo? I haven't tried one at work, but they seem nice and comfy in the shop.

    Tree felling vids

You want a wedge with a real steep taper, like the ally one in the vid. A plastic one will snap the hinge before it lifts it enough to push it where you want. Almost a useless technique - just can't lift enough to get something to go against the lean more than a little bit. If you have to lay...

    Husky air filtration.

But apparently not for the 543, it seems to be nylon only. But as it's only likely usage is not for the firewood collecting duties where dead wood and dust is likely it's not necessarily relevant. And anyway - zenoah.

    Husky air filtration.

Absolutely - but the low top models seem to need a smear of grease around the filter throat to keep out the fines with the flocked filters.

    Husky air filtration.

Fwiw - I've found the huskies great in green timber, but in dry wood the smaller huskies don't seem to keep out the fines as well as the 241/261/362/441 stihls. The 346/550/562 just don't match up to the newer stihls in really harsh conditions.

HEY ALL YOU NEW MEMBERS...A QUESTION.

Hey, I was on that list. I've posted and ****. Haven't done anything relevant to this forum for a while, it's been calm and sunny which means I have to kill weeds. Although I've been over spraying trees in a reveg gig. Should I post some pics of that stuff?

    t540 xp

This is interesting, there are other stories floating around where autotune saws will richen themselves up in the event of an air leak. Sometimes to the point of flooding out the saw. Obviously a kinked vent hose means not enough fuel to the carby to achieve that. Wonder how long the impulse...

    550xp or 362

Definitely get your head around how the stop/choke lever works. All the way up is choke, push down for fast idle, blip throttle and it is all off. Cold start is just like every other saw, prime if you need to, full choke till it coughs, then fast idle till it starts. Blip the throttle and...

    First climbing set up

Thanks all. There is some great advice in here, in the end I couldn't make a custom list much cheaper than the kit. Now I just have to wait as it takes the slow boat from the states to here.

    portable capstan winch

They're slow. If you don't have any choices they are fine. I haven't tried a winch on a chipper - but I'd compare the speed to a 12v winch on a 4x4.

    First climbing set up

Nope, don't know anyone who can help me learn. I've enrolled in an arboriculture course - but as I said earlier I'm not convinced that I'll learn all I need to know. The way things are structured here they only get paid their government grant money when you pass. So everybody passes and the...

    First climbing set up

Yep, work for myself. Weed control is the main thing, but I've grown the tree weed stuff to about 1/4 - 1/3 of the year. I'm happy slinging a chainsaw, not so much in some of the other spraying jobs we get. If I can grow into some climbing work, I can do more of what I enjoy. But I don't need...

    First climbing set up

PPE is covered, boots I'll run what I've got till I see a need. I'm running five ten exum guides. It's a rock climbing approach/guide boot, I've found the stealth rubber to be much grippier than the vibram rubber I see on most of the dedicated arb boots. I might be wrong, but from just climbing...
