Great to see you back Willard. We need the old timers (says me).

    MS 441 or MS 461

Like Stig, I run the 660 with a 36" bar on the stump and limb and buck with the 461 with a 28" bar, on easy ground. Used to be a Husky guy, but have gone strictly to these two Stihl saws. I did find that it really helps to go with the dual port muffler and an aftermarket air cleaner, well worth...

    Where's Spellerfelller??

Cold Logging was quite experienced as was "Holmen". Both passed on quite a bit of information that the less experienced could put to good use. It was interesting to me that Holmen announced to us all, that he was leaving the site in advance. He obviously cared.

    Where's Spellerfelller??

Maybe some people don't really "quit" they just get busy with a project or some other change in their life. As for me I am just too swamped during the Spring, Summer and Fall to do much more than just check for threads of interest, then in the winter try to contribute.

Questions about being self employed/contract climber

When you get older, but still able to produce, or do something at all, you count your lucky stars, that you are still in the game.

    Selling.....

interesting, I live remote, so it is balancing to see other's perspective's on stress and human interactions and how it impacts their decisions on life.

    West Coast Terms

The school marme that I was describing was in reference to old growth Redwood. A tight crotch also is a school marme. If you google the term you will see photographic examples of both. So everyone is right!

    West Coast Terms

I believe that the school marme term came from: picture the school teacher standing in front of the blackboard with a piece of chalk in her hand with her arm held out at a 90 degree angle. Thus a description of a tree with a sucker limb growing out of it and then upwards.

The best logging trick I've learned here. Thank you, Chris!

As far as the trick that started this thread goes we would use it to keep large Redwood from splitting out. The clear straight grain would split out when under great stress. Sometimes old growth fir, or Cedar, but Redwood was notorious for slabbing.

Best SRT device for Pitchy trees

Yeah, margarine or butter wouldn't be recommended for ropes for a number of reasons. Probably be fine for hardware is what I was thinking.

    small log/lumber trailer

We sometimes use our 1 ton dodge w/ a dually flatbed trailer. Seems to be able to haul about 1500 B.F. at a time. Probably not legal though.

Best SRT device for Pitchy trees

Margarine works great for cleaning pitch off glasses, face etc. Maybe it would work on gear without using something toxic. Real butter doesn't work, for some reason it has to be margarine.

    Living With Tendonitis

It seems like when I hit the 40 year to 50 year old range a lot of those kind of problems started cropping up, but eventually went away. It takes a lot of patience, but rushing into surgeries is a mistake IMO. Rest, stretching and exercise over time will solve a lot of issues.

    660 Is A Heavy Booger

I am not big on mod. saws now. Just quiet and smooth. That said, dual port muff. with a foam air cleaner really makes a big difference. The biggest thing is the cutter chain which seems to take decades to get right.
