I think Gary or someone wanted to see how the sugar pine mills out for my floors. This wood was milled last year. The logs I brought home recent will get milled soon and get stickers and dried for next year. I started laying out the floor today. Just planking it and then filling the gaps. Basically, no joints to tear apart ad kids and animals ruin floors pretty much. Might as well make it easy to replace. I'll keep taking pictures as we progress with descriptions of how it goes down. I will screw these down tomorrow as I tap them together and probably get them sanded at least. Grain should show up better after I start putting finish on them.

Crap. I'm not sure. It's either the express or the sentinel if memory serves. Lemme go google the differences and see if I can tell... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, we are the same way here Justin. Clay snot in after a rain. Almost got it stuck off the road playing with it. But I locked the diff and backed her out. I kinda know my limits around here. Man has to know his limitations ;) Mini is my primary for tree work. But I need a loader for for forwarding fast down long drives and more log lifting capacity. Back up machine. Need a second machine for Rob's mill too. I would like to put either a grapple or like what Mick put on his for skidding logs as well with the 3pt. It has it's limitations, but it has a niche as well. Grading my driveways is huge, and work I can do for quick money with a scraper. Hydraulics are my plan B as I get older. My crane op bugs me from time to time to learn his machine. The jockeys around here that think it's a mobile floating block bothers me though.

No Chit. Steve told me over the phone what was what, but ........ Not my first tractor I ever drove, but the first I ever drove was a Deere on my uncles farm raking alfalfa. I figured it out. But some letters would help my learning curve. Saw some decals on line for sale. Tempted. I know sticking both levers in the slots locks the gears. I found reverse and low.

Got some news tonight. I guess PG&E has put out a stand down order on the line clearance crews. This keeps up, that 500.00 per day offer aint gonna average too close to it.

I don't know that if it was just last month? We lost a dad of ten to a stupid move. Pulled the top of one and it fell on him. Guy had more experience too. Should have known better. Just trying to hurry through a day killed him. Happened mid day too. Kills me to see that pic of his wife and ten kids. Just heart breaking.

BTW, a lot of these crews are not from around here. Tons of inexperienced help. No offence to my buddy Jason I was training, my apprentice. But they made him a foreman. I had just really started to teach him rigging. So seriously? Most these guys dont have any business dealing with these damn crispy critters. And another good reason I will not sub for them. Just stupidity sometimes. Trying to cheat the process to make quota or money. I prefer to go home and love on my kids every night thanks. Don't get me started on the clean up either... over loaded, top heavy self loaders tipping over on the hwy. It's a gold rush man.. Lets all get rich dying.

If he had just bombed it, it probably would have been ok. But the reason they designated a crane removal would be that he could not due to targets and/or the tree was too far gone to be rigged. Well yup, it was. The shock of the top hitting and swinging back and forth broke it. The had no business rigging off that dead tree. You are correct Paul.

  3. Hi nick,

I am going to get into learning to splice. When I buy something I would rather buy something I am going to use for a long time rather then something cheap. I want to splice 16 strand, 24 strand, and double braid. What tools do you think I should start out with?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
