Had a chance at a huge 4x5 Blacktail this morning. I was at full draw at 40 yards and he spotted me and stopped moving on the game trail he was on. I needed him to take about 3 more steps for the shot between 2 trees. He would not budge. I sat there as long as I could but finally had to let off... which... he high tailed it back the way he came. Dammit! I've killed some decent Blacktails in my life, but this dude was a brute! Would have been my bigges t deer ever. I harvested a really nice 4pt Muley about 20 years ago, and this guy was way bigger than the Muley. Gary

Will do Dave! I have shot 3 elk in my life and it is like gutting and processing a horse. Packing them out is not very much fun either. :) Gary

No elk for us this year either. Great hunt with my family and friends... saw animals, but nobody was able to connect. Late archery buck has started for us now. Hoping to put more meat in the freezer as I'm almost out of venison from last year. :) Gary

From top to bottom: 8, 6, 9 and 3 pounds. Limit is 2 fish right now. If the quota is met by the end of this month, the state will make it a 3 fish per angler limit. :) Record year for Puget Sound Coho salmon this year. So it could happen. Me too. One of my favorite fish to catch. Funny thing is the smallest of the bunch is a wild fish, and fought the hardest. He was the only one to pop the line out of the downrigger clip. :) Depends on what river they are headed for. If they are headed for rivers that they have to travel further upstream to spawn, they will have more fat and oil reserves. These are not as oily as the river they are bound for, the spawning grounds and hatchery isn't as far as others. Just enough to not make them too dry though. :) Gary

We have a big time problem with this in Central Washington between Yakima and Walla-walla. Problem is too many hippy horse lovers keep getting in the way of any type of "control" of the animal population. The wild horses destroy crops, watering holes, native grasslands, and compete for territory and natural grazing areas with native animals like elk and mule deer. They might be "beautiful" to the horse fairies and unicorn lovers... but they are a scourge to the land. Wild horses are almost impossible to capture and domesticate and have any kind of cost effective program managed by the state or feds. It's hard to capture a wild horse and sell it off to someone and then they let their kid "ride" it and it kills the kid. It's a bunch of lawsuits waiting to happen. So erradication is about the only means neccessary... might piss off some horse lovers... but it needs to be done. Ironic thing is, that miners and "settlers" let them run free in the mid 1800's... so it's our own damn fault. :dur: Gary

I had a 1995 F250 7.3L Powerstroke TD with a 5 speed manual. That thing had ridiculous grunt when it came to pullin' and haulin'. Had an elk huntin' bud that had a 1990ish 7.3 IDI. He hated haulin' elk camp over the mountains with that thing. I could set my cruise control in 4th gear and damn near idle over the passes hauling a HUGE slide in camper. The Ford IDI's had their moment, but I would look elsewhere. Even for a beater diesel the older TD's are right around what they are asking. Gary

Bloodlust is usually the big issue. I hunt. Love to hunt. Love the taste of almost ALL game meat. But really don't "enjoy" the killing part. I have passed on Mule Deer and Elk that would make a lot of hunters have a wet dream. Reason being... just didn't feel like killing them that day. I still get "buck fever" and enjoy the rush when the opportunity arises to harvest an animal. But... sometimes... I just don't feel like it is the animals time to go. Meh... might be just me. But on the issue with these hogs, I don't see it as mindless fat boy killing. It's done that way for a reason. I'm glad there are cats that wanna do it, so then I don't have to. I know it's a weird take on things, but I also know I'm not alone in the way I think. :) Gary

Believe it or not, Domino's offers gluten free pizza crust. It only comes in 10" and is 3 bucks more expensive. But when you're on this stupid diet, and hankerin' for a hunk of pizza... it's actually not all that bad. One thing about thois diet is that our food bill has gone up by more than a third. There are more items coming out all the time that are gluten free. But there are some of the old stanbys like Corn Chex and Rice Chex that have always been without gluten. There are also some better breads coming out as well. Most gluten free loaves of bread are about the size of your foot, and about as dense too. Gary

I use brown rice flour a lot Jay. It works quite well. :) Also potato flour, tapioca flour, cornstarch and arrowroot. Steve... I have tried almost every gluten free beer available... they taste like shit. Worse than shitty Bud Light. They all have a weird after taste. They use Sorghum as their main grain source, and maybe that put the off aftertaste in the beer. Gary

Oy... I have had enough Tequila through my liver to float a small ship... I'll pass my friend. Yup... I can drink wine, but... blech... The occasional light beer or 2 will be fine for me. I can still drink anything I want, when I want... I just pay for it the next day by riding the toilet all day. Sounds fun huh? Gary

Lo and behold... I have been doing this long enough that now even drinking one Microbrew type of beer will screw me up. I can get away with a couple of crappy Bud Light's but that is about it. I am getting rid of my entire homebrewing system as well. I have it set up sweet too, with 3 taps in the fridge and capable of holding 20 gallons of beer. But alas... all good things come to an end. I really don't miss it all that much. I was slowing down my alcohol intake even before I had to cut gluten from my diet. :) Gary

Hindsight being what it is... I should have kept it and sold the 044. I just don't have the need for the 044 anymore. Maybe I'll look for another used 361. I did really like that saw. especially after I had the muffler modded. But when I was still fallin' I never used the dang thing so it sat. Gary

  1. Hey Tom, I totally didn't ever notice these messages until just now. I'm doing well. Just bought some property in the mountains in northern New Mexico near some good friends, and now I'm headed back to HK so I can make some money to build a house on it.

    How about you?
