This is with 50kn screw lock biners Brian (Skwerl) turned me onto... Pretty much use holes or places where the safety chain attaches to. Can always weld a loop or something on a hitch. http://masterblasterhome.com/showthread.php?18408-Who-Smashed-the-Dog-House!!!!-WHO-WHO-WHO

The big problem is that a tree isn't going to barber chair unless it is already cracked or weakened vertically. As Daniel proved with his skid steer, if it isn't already prone to splitting then it will just splinter apart when excessive force is applied.

I bought one of those short spools from Tree Stuff, 90 meter, recent. Got a 10.5 mm line that came in real handy on the oaks and crane. I had a few 200 footers, a 150, and retired one of my shorties. Just needed one. And at a real low price, it fit the bill. Like Sam pointed out. All set up in a bag for the fly....

I have no problem calling off a work day if it's raining heavy. A light sprinkle is one thing but drenching, pouring rain is just miserable. I do this because I enjoy the work and if it's miserable then just go home and come back another day.

I think our bodies are less able to deal with the heat as we age, which is why it seems harder to handle the heat now than 20 years ago.

Used to love raking hay as a kid. Me and my cousin out in the field all day. Glad I never made a career out of it though. Peaceful.

The owner of a big landscape company I sub for asked me if I could come by and help change some light bulbs in the shop today with the bucket truck. When I got there I went into his office and noticed a set of hedge trimmers on the floor. I asked him what he was going to do with them because I was in the market to buy some for my house. He gave them to me, said they came from his house but he never used them and the crews didn't like them because they were too small. He said I did lots of stuff for him and he appreciated it, take them and don't worry about it. Made my day. :D

I got lucky Brian. No one ever showed me either. All the shops I worked in never got round to teaching me. Seth got to learn in scouts when they made their steam punk BBQ/Smoker. So I got to learn with him some basics. So...... My stick welds are getting better, but only enough for quick and ugly repairs. I call it gorilla welding...

Rockin' and rolling, Stephen. Little bites every day are the secret to working in the heat. If I have to put in a long day through the heat of the afternoon this time of year, I'm trashed for 2-3 days. Wish I could weld, one skill I never picked up. Need welding on my dump trailer and the big bucket truck. One day I'll get to it.

Damn Stig, Heal up quick man. Been slamming little jobs this week thus far so we can beat the heat. Slammed one oak removal monday rigged off a roof and then three 80 foot dead pins today before noon. Its like 103 plus this week. Next two days are crane removals. I hope we can slam each one at 4 hours each. Waiting on evening to change the chipper blades. Did some welding last night. More to follow. Beefing up the John Deere bucket.

Ron has nobody to blame but himself. He had several decades to make the choice to live here legally. Instead he chose to ignore it and continue living here illegally. No sympathy here. I didn't force him to ignore the law.

Hope you heal quickly, Stig. And hopefully your apprentice will be able to razz you about this for a long time to come. :P Today I cut down a split oak tree behind a shopping center (back parking lot). I worked by myself and stacked it up, wood and brush in separate piles. Then I went home, swapped trucks and took my trailer to pick up 4 tons of #57 gravel for my driveway. Came home and spread that, then had to go back to my tree job to meet the grapple truck. For $400 they will come fill up their 40 yard truck. I can't hire somebody to chip the brush and then haul the wood to the dump for less than that, so it's a very easy option when you have a big mess to clean up. I went to work with him and get the area raked up while he loaded so he could get all the cleanup. Got rained on and just got home. Went through 3 shirts today and I'm about to jump in the shower and put on #4.

Our lot in life is a direct result of our combined life choices. We make thousands of choices every single day. In 40 years that guy never once decided to become an American citizen.
