Great post. Throws good, wam-bam done. btw, the snap in these latest videos is not my fav. The ones I love the most have a larger ring/outer eye diameter. Figure 8 to tie them on is nicer than bowline IMO. Tight to snap, less bulky and still "untieable." I gotta talk about this in a vid. When I was a Arborfest doing a rigging demo with Samurai Joe, Bonner whined about the snap rigging and made us switch to the politically correct arborist tripe that everything must have a bowline and a marl. Pisses me off to this day. Same kind of bs as the one-hand-ban wimps. part 2 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mVC7QLKT6Xo" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Rope snaps? I dont overrig them. Or knots either for that matter. I just like to use nice ropes and rig things that wont break the spars out. I hate that. Aug

It was for Hydro I believe. Out in the bush a few hours north of here. When it's within falling distance of the powerlines there's no easy way. Even trying to fall it at ground level, There's every chance it'll just sink on your saw when you try to make an undercut. Blasting would be perhaps been the way to go....but I'd assume the wires were within falling distance. Glad the guy took the time to set up the remote ties.

Ive tried em all. K+H are the best hands down. 10s and 12s, mostly 10s. Hard heads are ok, but they dont drive as good imo, and are heavy if your packing em all day.

Never considered that chain stretch had anything to do with how sharp a chain is, something I will have to think about. Very true about our wood being different, or the possibility that it is different. I wouldnt claim to know, I have never cut anything in your part of the country, but it does stand to reason.

Brian, this is not pointed at you directly, but my general observation- No offense intended, but if your filing, and less than an expert with a file, and/or using a round file, then your chains are not what I would consider sharp. Most all cutters here run silvey grinders for that very reason. Not trying to start a fight... ;) Stig, Of the cutters I know Oregon favors Stihl chain at least 2 to 1.

I run Oregon. Most guys here do. Smoother and cuts faster. Gotta keep it outta the dirt though. Ran stihl chain for years. It stays sharper longer than Oregon, and you can saw some dirtier stuff and it will still cut ok, but its not as sharp as oregon initially, nor as smooth. I buy it buy the roll, and actually have several rolls. Comp and full skip for long and short bars. I do have a roll of skip stihl that I like for my long bars, as in 42 and up. It cuts a wider kerf than oregon which is good on long bars. I run 3/8 even on the 60" bar, when it gets too short (teeth) I cut the chains up and run on short bars. Just my .02 Use a roll or a roll and a half a year. So 100 to 150' of chain.
