Hmm....interesting. I'm still nursing along my old 046 while I've gone through 3 461's in 4 years at work. The 461 is a great saw since I use it most often but still not a 046. Hopefully the 462's are a bit tougher

I need to check out a spider jack at some point but I'm counting on the postal service to deliver me something special tonight or tomorrow. Cool work Eric.

Got called off due to road conditions. My roads were decent enough but what ever. It's my oldest daughter's birthday. Being home we allowed her to open gifts in the morning. I'm kinda thinking that I was a bit assholish for making her wait till 8:38am. She was born at 8:37. She had been staring at her presents for almost two hours though. The log splitter and I became reacquainted today as well. Made a dimple in the pile

I was a sniper with a B.B. gun. I shot my nieghbor( still good friends) in the trigger finger to many times to count. Mom was beyond mad when she went to the freezer and found a dozen or so squirrels that we got. Prolly the worst thing we did was wait until closing time at the local bar and shoot the drunks as they stumbled out. Stupid as hell thinking about it but I learned how to run and hide real well

Spent till 11am picking up plywood from under the snow:X. Got a light dusting at the house. Drive less than an hour north and it was 3" while 3 more came down today. Had a guy blowing snow off the yard where the mini needs to travel so it'll freeze. Gonna be 12*F in the morning with wind chills well below zero. Gonna dress a bit warmer( for some reason my hands are getting cold this year) and try to get the last 8 or 9 on the ground tomorrow. Deal with clean up Thursday and Friday. Have another job just like this up the road next. They're a little less worried about damage in the woods so I can drop a bunch of the skinnier trees and then another job like this 6 miles away from that. By then it'll be Christmas and I'm taking a few vacation days. Like till New Years. Use them or lose them.

I used to keep a 5 foot long piece of 4" schedule 40 in my pickup just for that brendon. That was back when staying home because of cold weather was not an option for me.

Today was more dead ash for the rediculously wealthy guy. Today's ash were prime. Like spurring a steel pole. They hinge so nice in this stage. Five of them today plus a poplar and a sassafras. Started snowing in the afternoon which made for one more reason to not like plywood. Slick as can be for the mini. I'm hoping the ground freezes up a bit overnight so I can get the rest of the wood out from today's work.

I'm probably gonna switch to green teeth after I run though the Rayco's I have but the pocket bolts will always get never seized. It'll be a while though. I have enough new to changes everything twice plus four times as much to be sharpened. I messed up and should've took my dull teeth to the expo. They were covering shipping if you carried them in. He showed me a dozen 5 gallon buckets of teeth someone carried in( obviously in multiple trips) that he was eating the shipping on. That's the thing with teeth. They are heavy. Shipping is a bastard. I can say that for the amount my boss buys and the way Vermeer works, we send a guy to pick them up. Something with shipping won't allow them to come direct without paying a buttload more

I had chicken tenders tonight. I guess they beat out chicken nuggets because instead of being cut off, ground up, and reshaped into cool little shapes they are just cut off and breaded. Whatever; I'm supplementing with beer to make up for nutritional value. The bad part is I've shown my wife how easy and cheap it is to make them "homemade" and was told how much better they are. Only takes a few more minutes And please share the ox tail soup recipe. I've got some in the freezer that the wife can't figure out how to cook up

Never seize goes on every stump grinder bolt I put on. Really makes a difference. Just check them occasionally for torque.

Day got a bit better. While I was out loading up my personal gear for tomorrow I noticed a car going past several times real slow. I finally walked out to see what the deal was. It was someone I did a felling job for about a month ago and he wasn't sure if he was at the right house. He got his bill in the mail and wanted to pay cash and in person because he was very happy with my work. No lawn damage and everything was limbed up just how he would've done it 30 years ago. Even added a $50 tip. I got another history lesson from him about being a helicopter pilot for the power company as well.

Shit, I messed up that didn't I? I took out one to many 0's. It's been one of those kinda days here. Sun is setting and I still have a few hours of stuff to get done and the wife is wanting me to take the kids somewhere because she sprained her ankle. She's one of the few people I know that can manage to fall up a set of stairs completely sober. Grrr.

Mick I know your pain. When my wife leaves me on my own for a night I usually injure myself or end up with a pounding headache the next day. Jim, I can not sympathize with you as I don't own a D8

Highway for the mini skid. My couple of trees went good today. Just took longer than I hoped. A few small scuff marks but no big deal. Really gotta look hard to find them. Gonna try to knock out a half dozen more tomorrow and hopefully finish up Monday. Phones are to be left in the truck on the road or turned over to our baby sitter. Poor guy. As much of a spectacle as I am, I don't know how he can just watch all day.

I just got done talking about this with the property owner. I killed the zip line idea. Gonna rig it down and re hook to another line set in another spar further down the hill to mitigate turf damage. The mini is gonna get a workout today. We've got 100 sheets of plywood down and 50 more on the way. To be honest it's a PITA working to do zero impact, but I actually enjoy it in a way. It's nice to be able to leave and no one could tell we were there. Just wish they would let us get some pictures. Maybe he will send me a copy of his surveillance videos

Had a good day. We took care of every thing that could be felled with out damage to lawn or woods. We've got brush staged for the mini to haul out tomorrow. I've got one more I can fell but it's gonna do some damage if I do. It's an easy climb and rig but the drop zone is ti steep for equipment and I've never seen a hillside this wet. I'm thinking of guying the tree and trying to zip/speedline the tree. It's a declining tulip poplar. Well known for root issues and snapping trunks. Does a guy being set even with the speed line hieght seem ideal for getting the wood(in 8' lengths) to a flatter drop zone seem plausible? Or should I just drop it and hope for minimum damage? Has about a 7-10 degree back lean from the intended drop zone. The log will definately leave a ditch skidding it out. At least if I fell it I can put a bit of lift with a skyline type of set up to somewhat mitigate the damage. Job is open check book. I asked for a helicopter and was turned down though. I don't know why. The guy has a landing pad for one next to his house.
