End of the day proactively accepting refreshments/meals will mean end of the day further away or eating when you'd prefer to be eating at a different time. Had a guy insist on making a bbq but it was way too late by the time he had it done.... we really needed to eat about 3 hours earlier.

Jay thats pretty tame of you. Did a bid this morning, wealthy, well to do, educated etc nice people clients, investment property about to hit the market (property here has been booming). Sprucing up the yard for the sale. Guy wants me to take 1 foot off a 4 foot hedge outback, thats ok. Coming to the front I notice a semi mature euc, its literally 50% dead with bracket fungus. I point it out to him and hes pretty disinterested, says no thanks. It really should be a removal or "major deadwood job" and he'll get a better price on the property guaranteed. Its just hard to fathom since they've put down decorative mulch n chit but are happy to leave something so obvious....

Yes, very well written and witty plus getting to the core of the matter as opposed to the mainstream media towing the official line of "Unprecedented fight of the century blah blah" or whatever similar rubbish was being spouted.

Exactly, wait until you hear an account by someone that you know well enough to know they're not bs prone. That will quickly erode some bulk skepticism

The powers that be needed it to go some sort of distance, those cynical enough would have to wonder whether it was ever a legitimate contest or just another product of mass consumerism.

I'll slip a card in the letter box for dead trees but not the fugly ones and I don't mind knocking if one has recently come down sprawled over their yard.

Thanks, he's not alone and recovery should be swift. He's booked in to have a small tumor cut from his kidney in 2 weeks (by a good surgeon). The survival rate is very high in this situation, its barely stage one, so fortunate that it was picked up early on

That would be heartbreaking. My old man was diagnosed with cancer this week- he is and always will be my best friend. We can be thankful that he has a very high chance of beating it as it was diagnosed so early. These sorts of things put everything back into perspective.

Sean I interpreted transactional to mean "strictly business" where relational means developing a working relationship. Like as in homeowner clients will lie to you all day everyday but when your dealing with a property manager you can generally count on a higher degree of transparency and cooperation. I know the question wasn't directed at me however this week has really made me think about the relationships I have with certain clients and that many of them espouse a sense of loyalty and honesty however its highly exaggerated- its been liberating to better understand this relationship.

Some really valuable advice here guys, thanks. I don't like a pushy close when I'm looking for a product or service either but I can see how a subtle nudge in that direction is the way to go. I've fallen into the habit of pricing larger jobs after the visit (same day still), I explain that after the amount of labor and time required has been confirmed a price can be provided. I find it much easier to work out the numbers when I can concentrate rather than be doing sums whilst they are standing there staring...
