I always wear safety glasses when filing, having something stuck in your eye can really ruin an otherwise ok day

Glad she's ok. I fell in a pool with the 200t on my hip once, I was able to grab the side as I went in and hopped straight out. The saw was submerged around 1 second and barely got wet, its a stressful time though no doubt.

Go see Derek at Seven Hills Stihl, best service around IMO, hes a champ You could get a 150 and do the mod (I just pulled the spark arrestor out of mine and its already much angrier) plus get a small cheap rear handle ie ms170 ( plenty guys climb with that alone but its verging on hackery). This used 200 is going on gum tree for $1050 neg.

That's what they taught us at tech, either skill up or work your way down to $5 bucks an hour- That's how the tree game works.

I think I know why the tree game is unregulated: Enforcement would be very difficult and expensive, its a different site day to day, or multiple sites in one day. Whereas a building site sits there for months ticking away, the authorities can schedule their visits very easily. With trees they would need to drive around endlessly homing in on the sound of saws and chippers. We need the hacks so they can work for the clients that we don't want. The guys that work for peanuts ended up that way by doing shit work, they joined the race to the bottom of the market, its their own fault.

Everyone runs their show differently, some of our guys are really switched on and they know what tree work is worth in ballpark terms, which is fine as they also know when the boss has done his ass. We all know that pruning is where disputes can arise, I'm with Willie in that my bids are highly detailed and specific. They include how many limbs to be reduced, max diameter cuts, percentage of foliage ( "up to" approximately) and what distance clearance of structure. If someone wants to start the day by pointing at branches I tell them straight up its going to revert to hourly rate, if they query the end result I go over the quote with them and confirm that all the specs have been addressed. I don't have time to provide every possible option under the sun and then have dithering around once we've showed up still trying to decide what they want. This is how I need operate in my market.

I'm all for fair pay and conditions but unions can end up corrupt, politicized and choke productivity. If a guy is getting paid the equivalent of a burger flipper then maybe that's what he should go and do instead.

MMA seems to be a fad amongst the youth of today- they love it along with their steroids, human growth hormone and poor quality tattoos, its all part of a carefully crafted image. When they use their fists its usually against an easy mark that was minding their own business or hunt in packs and attack those they can easily outnumber. That's been my observation when out on the town.

I do cringe at some mma, but, they are consenting adults so its their choice. Cory I think you've mentioned he has a book before and I forgot, I'll make sure to grab a copy sometime, hard to beat a good book.

I respect Mark Hunt for his humility and also for just walking away after a KO as opposed to following it up with more blows

They want a firm price 99.9% of the time. When you talk hourly rates it always sounds high, the clients don't know how long it takes to do xyz, often it takes way less time than they could imagine.

I own one that I've never used, its a 4 inch 18hp Greenmech. I was slashing (chainsaw chipping) at the time so it seemed like a good idea, the machine would have fit onto the trailer draw bar. Then business picked up and using it would have been inefficient. I think there are some good little machines available and whilst not toys they are still niche equipment for tight access jobs.

Its 21 deg c which is a typical summer max. If you guys ever get the chance make sure you do it!! Riding waves can change your whole outlook on life- after a session your mood is elevated due to the endorphins released, its amazing stuff.

I ride a body board, its a 45 min drive to the beach from where I live- becoming a competent standup surfer is much easier if you live closer. I'd move to the beach but its a different arena in terms of tree work (some very steep terrain, tight access, ticks, leaches)
