Be sure your spurs don't point towards something you don't want to spur...like your other foot in case you gaff out. Don't take real high steps with gaffs...that can be a good way to endanger your other leg. You are gonna gaff out...it's just a stumble, doesn't have to be a big deal.

I remember my first c!imbing course too, I was in my early 30's, and fit, but I was beat too! Sore and bruised, but like Marc A said the movements are unfamiliar, both for your mind and your body...keep at it, it will get easier. Once you have a better understanding of how to move in the tree, how to use your gear, your body will take up those motions and get used to them. Word to the wise though, the older we get, if you have time away from climbing, when you go back to it, you'll be sore again for a few days till everything catches up again!

My saws go inside padlocked to a shelf when we are away, chipper is in a shed at a friends property now, stainless swedged cable to a shackle through the wall, padlocked to the tow handle and chain. I have seen some mini tracking devices advertised on FB, you register it and there is a app you can get to track it if needed, I reckon that's the way to go eventually.

I am bat-shat crazy watching out for my boys. BUT...when Hayden was about 18 months and my wife was "handing him off to me" we had a near catastrophe. As I drove up and parked my truck I had to adjust near a curb. She saw me stop and thought I was parked...didn't realize I was going to get closer to curb. She thought the danger was over and let her guard down. Hayden ran to my truck while I was looking to the rear to gauge how to move truck. By the time I turned around he had disappeared below my sight line of the truck. You can't avoid what you cannot see. Long story short we almost had a tragedy that day. I still get PTSD thinking about it. Don't take NOTHING for granted when it comes to kids. Lots of kids get killed that way...they call it the "Bye-bye" syndrome. You can google it...awful stuff.

But you have to really trust the people that you give the link to. If they forward it to someone else that you don't know and that person forwards it also, it could be out there on the web without you wanting it to be. Once the link is unintentionally "out there" you have lost control of it. You have the most control with the private link.

Paul... I have a lot of videos that are "unlisted". For an unlisted video you have to give the person the link then they can see the video. Supposedly it cannot be searched for and found... the link has to be provided to the person. As I understand a "private" video you have to have a list of email addresses that are allowed to watch it. That puts more work on you trying to keep a list of who is allowed to watch it. I choose the option "unlisted" for videos I do not want to be public. And give each individual person that link in a private message or email.

Good on you WoodC! That's great to get a full time firefighter spot :) I'm a volunteer and really enjoy it. Ha Brian! you have just successfully reminded me why I don't go to do tree work in Bermuda in August and September!! I know how you feel and I don't miss it. April-June is enough for me now...by July I struggle with the humidity, I used to scoff when I was under 40...now I understand! Frosty morning here yesterday -2c then misty rain for most of the day, cut some firewood and tidied our own front yard for a change.

In his 80s...some mobility issues but still can do much. Very badass if necessary. Level of knowledge, skill and experience is phenomenal. He cannot do anymore some of what he teaches...but his understanding of how to teach is remarkable.
