I was impressed with the organization of the Incident Management on the fire...Lots of comms happening so even though we were off in another sector we could hear what was happening, and check the maps we were issued, so we had a heads up quite a bit before we were told to bug out. Also all the trucks have GPS trackers, that were being monitored at the staging area. IN another life, I would have loved to be a full-time Firey or SES officer.

What's LIB? Ditto on the equipment, now I have a chipper we'll bring it along sometimes on a smaller job just for marketing, only have a few branches to clear and they could just go in the back of the ute, but it looks good. Charge an hourly rate, at least get coffee money, then people see it with my telephone number on it. Also cones are good, an inexpensive way to say "I care and am thinking about more than just making a buck'. We've also added a slew of traffic signs (had to for Council work, including traffic management plans) they look good too. Uniforms of some description and a clipboard with a job sheet...plenty of strategies to separate you from the herd.

In August's test I only saw question marks. And in this comment I am putting an apostrophe in the possessive form of August which is the second word in this post. And in this post I'm now going to insert 6 apostrophe mark and then three question marks ''''''???

Likely a good experience sharing hard work like that with similarly trained people. Keep your head and eyes on the swivel out there, Bermy.

Part of the difficulty I have with pricing is living in the country where most people are practical and pretty self sufficient...they do a lot themselves and if you get called in to look at something (usually involving climbing) they can't quite make the switch from 'do it yourself' pricing to 'I have to hire a professional' pricing. Also, people who move down here from the mainland for a lifestyle change, once they get to know a local 'do it all handyman' or the new friend's handy husband, also can start to balk at professional pricing when a more complicated job comes along. But, then there are those who recognise what they can't do themselves or ask a handyman to do, and just want the job done for a fair price and pay up no worries.

Spent Sunday fire fighting, 5500ha fire two hrs. NE from us. They are starting to call in brigades from further out to come in for the day or a couple for relief. Two divisions, six sectors...4wd only, hilly terrain, ironbark and tea tree. dozers putting in tracks. Water point was a little creek we had to draught out of. Were told the worst hazard was falling trees and branches. Our sector got flanked in the afternoon when the fire got away south of us, had to pull out on the fallback road. Safe area was a paddock near a house, they had a big portable collar dam set up, we watched the helicopters come in and dip and fill their buckets...cool! 12 hr shift. Caught up on sleep today.

HH fan all the way here, someday will upgrade to HH2 just for the more compact size. My self tending improvement is a bent gate biner clipped to your bridge ring and clipped over your rope just where it comes out at the bottom of the HH. Easy on, easy off. However since I switched to Tachyon 11.7 with the beeline, I haven't needed anything extra. It tends very much better than the XTC 13mm I started on. My VT is 4:1 (I think...I mean the legs do cross once at the bottom...)

You needed your own GoPro running! or whatever the fad was then. That would have been cool to see. Good you got it sorted out safely.

Bermy replied to a thread The MS150 Has Arrived in Chainsaws!
Blocking down a half rotten ash the other day, using the 150 to cut some of it....it stopped oiling. It happened to my other 150 before too. I cleaned it out on the job, power head and bar, but that didn't solve it. Had to use the 200...forgot how heavy that sucker is! Got home, drained the oil tank, half filled it with gas, gave it a shake and poured it out...quite a lot of crud came out, repeat, then filled it with oil again and ran it without the bar. I could see the runny, gassy oil start to bubble through, then run normal, bar and chain back on and all was good. Whew.

I think I might be getting a rep for being pricey...in some folks eyes. But then there is a builder here, he never gives quotes, charges like a wounded bull and has more work than enough!
