Climbed wayyyyyyy too many crispy critters this week. The kind you go up to make them smaller, find huge cracks and pick a spot to fall 1/2 of them just to cut some loss in the understory and not hang them up in tight spots. Worked on reassembling the brown ford an got that fired up tonight. Now just some last bits and pieces to button up and fine tuning. Then test driving. Got the white f250 back from its tranny rebuild Friday only to have the truck die Sunday out in the middle of nowhere trap shooting with the kids. Had it towed Back up the hill and got it back yesterday after they fixed the fuel electrical issue. So I ended my work week, after climbing nasty dead, climbing a live 150' sugar pine. One of 3 the HO wants topped due to IPPS beetle infestation. So I did the deed. Two more to do next month. Tried for a long time to talk him into leaving the dead tops as habitat for birds of prey. He would not buy it. So, at least I did a proper job of it. All the other dudes up here would just gaff it up and hack it up. Long week.

2.5 hours...??? What does this reference? From what I read, the difference in experiencing full totality and 95% is something like the difference between looking at a Playboy centerfold when you are 15 years old, and having full loving sex with your best friend and life partner after being away from each other for a couple of weeks. (My comparison, not something the astronomers offered :))

Don't get snippy, now. :) I never ever said it was no problem. I have just said that when people think I don't understand what it's like to work in hot and humid conditions, that they are mistaken. And that it can be done while still using proper PPE. Working outdoors in a physically demanding job in that sort of weather takes a special skill set, and you better know how or you can get bad sick, or worse.

I hope y'all are right. Make life much easier if it were so. But I'm not holding my breath for it...forecast 1 million visitors to a state with a total population of well under 4 million, all concentrated in a 70 mile wide by 350 mile long strip. That could get ugly.

You know you are in trouble when you ask for the new guy to fetch your water bottle hanging on the driver side of the cab inside by the steering wheel... RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DOOR. And he brings you back the bottle that has been sitting under the spare tire in the bed of the flat bed that had gear on top of it and still contained water from over a month ago............ True Story.

The behaviour in its entirety was poor. Still, freedom of speech is the issue. Be careful who you decide has it and who does not. ALCU in court established that the permit for the right wing was valid and they were legally allowed to have their day. King George can duck my left nut and has no significance. The what if is moot. Quit it. And if you don't think that civil war was not more than just about anti slavery. You are entitled to your opinion. But consider, the South was relying on cheap labor for King Cotton and not industrialization. That people, is one part of that times economy. Buy losing the election, first Republican president, the south felt unheard in politics. Yes, anti slavery was a huge threat to them. They also lost the ability, as a result of the election, to expand their interests into newly aquired territories. South also saw it as unconstitutional. Not saying slavery was right. Just that it was legal and part of a major economy at the time.

Little prick was right...state law :). We the public are deemed too stupid to safely pump our own :). Funny thing is, prices for gas are not higher, and often are lower than in WA, ID, CA and western states farther away as well.

Might be a blessing, considering how the public safety officials here are talking doom and gloom over how many visitors are coming to Oregon, and how difficult it is going to be to supply gas, groceries, emergency medical services, etc. Especially in the face of the extreme wildfire hazard level. Highways and most secondary roads in the path and outward at least a hundred miles are expected to be parking lots.

America, where the rebels are patriots. Remember, it is how it started ;) And people often mistake the civil war all about slavery and the black slaves. It started as an economic war between the money in the North and the cotton growers in the South. The war platform of the administration of the time just tied human rights to it. The right of all men created equal. But the bottom line was over taxation of the cotton industry and more. Railroad barons were involved as well. More factors to it than what you might learn in Common Core these days.

Most of my response was to Levi and not to you Stig. You sir, I know better and have an idea of your opinion (a lot like my own often) and how you can understand things once grasped. And I also understand your sarcasm most the time when you are being as such. You are a factual man that often does not tie emotion into your opinions.

Totally disagree. History is in the process constantly of being rewritten. What ever our schools teach vs reality is a constant through our history. Native American history, black history, Chinese history, Irish history............... Pretty much American history. Unless you really do your own research, you will never know all the details. IF the South had won, yes history would be different. But what difference does that make unless you are in an alternate universe. Your reference there is a moot point. Want to make an Emancipation Park? Build one. Cities need more trees. Don't like a statue? Bummer. Hate the parks name? Bummer. There are plenty of people that have heritage related to it and memories as well. Why should they be trod upon. How politically correct is that? I hate the memorial they placed in our arts park for the 911. I respect that it means something to most people. I respect that it is important to history. As art, I find it an eye sore. But, I can respect it being there. I just don't picnic or listen to music while staring at it. Being art, I guess it accomplished it's goal. It made me feel something. Bleagh. But it re minds me of lives lost and a place in our history. It gives homage to a past place and people. Sacrifice. Guess what, a lot of folks were sacrificed in the civil war too. Some good things came of it, some horrible. Best remember both. 2. You are not being tolerant of the other side and already are anticipating WHAT they will be protesting, HOW they will be protesting, and an end result. SO I guess by that standard, Black Lives Matter should have been denied as well....... Digest that for a minute. How tolerant is political correctness. Oh, they used Tiki Torches instead of candles... Crap, they gonna burn us down LAWDY!!!!! BTW, I don't subscribe or tolerate racism well. I am not a white supremacist. But ya know what, I would have been there to protest the park and statue issue like a lot of other folks did that are not either. They just want their heritage left in place. This is America, and I believe it is within their right to do so. Peacefully though granted. But, what started out as peaceful, can often turn ugly, given the right circumstances. The local Government set it up the climate, and the media was happy to show you how awful scary it was. Stay tuned.

This was a stage set by first renaming a park and planning to remove the statue. The Park went from the Robert E Lee, to Emancipation. Of course the confederate flag is no longer accepted in places as well. The squeaky politically correct wheel is turning, people claim offence, and history changes or is removed. Now, the local governments granted Black Lives Matter and other more "progressive, liberal, democratic, etc" groups permits to protest the statue and park name and other events. prior to this. That was all fine and good. Then these folks were granted permit, then permit about revoked and altered, then a judge ordered a stay on the permit. They then granted the opposition their permits again for this rally. So.... the stage is set. OHHHHHHH THE OUT RAGE! Bull shit. Government induced shit storm. Leave history alone, grow some fucking skin, let freedom reign.

M and I and another couple, great friends, are going to travel south a couple of hours to camp in a pretty remote part of the MHNF, then hike to an abandoned fire lookout tower site for the eclipse. At this point, might well be smoky from several big fires close by and afar, but even if views of the sun are hampered, it will still be totality darkness. Charged up, gonna be fun.
