Im a firm believer that one should work a year at the very least with an established company before starting out on your own. Remember Woodentop? He left (thank God!) with the intention of completing a part time course in arboriculture. The college found a firm which offered him work (at a low wage) to fill in the blocks between the courses. He turned it down, didn't need the experience apparently.......

But you didn't buy that as your first chipper with little work in the diary though.

I just don't believe that. Low overheads, payment on the day usually. If you want to hock yourself up to the hilt with bucket truck etc. Sure. But a chipper, chip truck and some saws, 25k maybe. I would say it's very much a come and go business, I've known a few knock it on the head because they're too old, got bored or moved into garden maintenance or associated trades for an easier life. But unwillingly go out of business due to bankruptcy, you'd have to try pretty hard I reckon.

We all want to pay the least possible for stuff and get paid the most for what we do.

I've never mastered those grinders. I agree on the badly dulled chains. I often just chuck them away.

Never pleasant, worst part of the job. But what can you do when you're half way into a takedown?

Improved security on the workshop. Remote sliding aluminium roller shutter. Can't believe how something like this makes me happy.

You'll be pouring out of there like Ghostbusters! I've actually got a bit of an infrastructure thing going on myself today. I'll post some pics later.

Trouble is, when it does hit the fan, they'll find a way to weasel out of payment if you've fibbed. Back in the U.K. My public liability was linked to turnover, so every year they'd asked me if my turnover had increased.

When they get a bit thin on the ground we order another 10 from the Internet. 10 to 15 pairs a year disappear into the ether.

Saw a bit about the dam on the news. Blowing hard here, not sure if I want to climb, but no ground based work to bring forward. Wait till the sun comes up fully to make a decision. Things always seem different in daylight.

I've buy my reading glasses in bulk. 20 pairs bought in the last 18 months, maybe three pairs left in circulation. This reminds me of the Optigrab from the movie The Jerk.

Tricky grind for sure. One wrong move and you'll have half the fence round the wheel. Those finger teeth are wank, cheap though I suppose.

iPads are excellent. Watch tv, social media, emails, "listen" to the wife, all at the same time.
