Rope is pricey up here, they always come down. Thin cheap cords, leave them in often.

Misaligned bearings, wow in shaft, stressed housing. Ouch! They are meant to chip wood, not smashup derby! Collisions suck. Hope it works out.

 Butch Steve, good plan! I'm in a foul mood, court crap to deal with has me down, anyway getting ready to cut a christmas tree for the GF's place. She seems a tad supportive at the moment.

Up here those smaller tanks are the way to go. Bottle contracts can be very high. We are allowed to own the smaller ones. Can even get them exchanged at TSC and some autoparts stores, on weekends. I managed to aquire 3 spares, even for the MIG welder.

Ah crap Jim! Glad the finger is better Mick. My ex took me to court years back wanting to erase her child support arrears. Ended in a trial, which in Canadian family law, is a big thing. She never showed up. Judge ordered her arrears remains, plus intetest, july 2013. Now she filed the same motion, again. Either way, if I agree or fight, it is penty of unneeded paperwork for me, and fast, since the court date is the 9th January. She gets court help for free, being on welfare. Rich, IIFC you have your own bucket, chipper and skid of some size?

I've taken a cold chisel, on smaller bolts, and kinda deformed the outside of the head to try to get the hex shape back. A good cleaning of the socket, nice tap of the hex into the hole. Other thing I've done is take an oversized hex and grind a slight taper, kinda wedge it in. I have tried to weld the socket into the bolt as well on larger bolts, mixed results

Oh, crap, I think I misread your question. Yes, I find it faster with the bar on an angle than straight, with a ripping chain. Edit: I now carry a paint brush to brush off the fuel/ bar oil cap when refilling and carb cleaner, my 066 redlight filter gets plugged up in 15 or so minutes, need to upgrade that somehow. I was also thinking of making the chip deflector a bit wider and longer. I also put some nylon rollers on the bolts that clamp the bar, just incase the chain gets too loose, I did have one bolt get cut off on another job, somehow I bumbled enough to sharpen the chain and used it on the walnut. :O

You can still pivot the mill around for best cutting angles. I like the winch. I will operate it without the catch on, so I can back it off when the saw gets bogged. But if I have to spit or wipe my face I flip the catch and can still pull into the cut one handed.

Nice job Mr Shine! No, princess auto cheapy hand winch, and some clearance dyneema line at a rope shop. Not sure what otherside you mean? Edit. Oh. What I secured the winch line to? A nail tapped into the log.

In Ontario I think there are ways for ownerships (titles) with only bill of sale as well. I had a call a year or so ago for a guy up north looking for an ownership to a motorcycle I sold back in 1997. Guess he fixed it all up and needed the paperwork to get it on the road....it was still in my name... ..... I demanded my bike back or I would call the cops!! :P

Two 28" black walnut, 8ft long, St Catherines. Job was for another tree guy, gave him a go at a board. Tight squeeze for them to get the boards out. Cart came through.
