Trusting your equipment is huge. We wouldn't be able to do any of this without that trust. It's crazy to see some of the things these badasses are pulling off on a daily basis. . . There's no other rope access work that does anything close. Massive dynamic forces, hundreds of feet of running rope, chainsaws. . . It's always amazing 8) I don't have any close call stories that really illustrated I could trust my gear. It just came about over time I guess. . . Cheers

 Don't worry Jim, it won't be going into the grinder like that one. Rumor has it most of that damage happened the first day they got it. Bought new to keep the access road open, and the first trip down with it's new plow they put it in the trees. . . Its been through like 5 motors, 3 clutches, original gear box and axels. . . Frames not even rusty. 8) Blue truck got spa treatment this weekend. Oil change, rear output shaft seal, shocks, belts, (hoses are new), changed the gear oil in the transfer case, checked the differentials, coolant, greased everything. . . new sideboards. I'm kinda sore form the damn concrete floor. haha

The trucks WILL break down. I've just had to accept it. Just cracked the head, or at least blew the gasket on a 76 Power Wagon. Belly scraper is limping along, but at least the two V-Plows are holding up. . . considering we already cracked the frame one one and replaced the yoke on the other one last year. . . It literally never ends. haha

You'd like it. It is billed as a positioning aid. Always the chance that you'll throw the thing on a traverse and it will get stuck in an unworkable position though, then you're working on recovery of the tool instead of whatever you were supposed to be doing. . . It makes it kind of fun. High stakes. Taylor Hamel did a cool little video on it through DMM. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IvCkrFlq1_g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Thanks Fiona! The hook was just to pendulum from one tree to another. I knew I was going to set a remote TIP as the removal was really punky dead, but I wanted to clean it out a little. I bypassed the big stuff on the way up and moved to the healthy tree, set my tie in, and moved back. Kind of silly I guess, but it really let me set a nice primary tie in, redirected so my line was parallel with the dead stem. . . no line angle or limb interference. Cheers

Caught some snow yesterday. Six hours of plow. A Land and Forest conference call, and pulled an old lady out of a snow bank. . . I'm taking my dump truck for a run to town for some food. 8)

Thanks Peter. Sorry the camera died before anything cool happened. . . haha No way Cory! I was super excited to see that. Belichick and Brady are stone cold football assassins. Never once did either of them look the least bit flustered. Once Brady started getting a few seconds in the pocket, those drives were clockwork. Best Super Bowl ever!!

Thats awesome Jim, and I agree. As long as the frame isn't broke I'll probably try and fix it. . . Hell, even then. Only reason I was in that tree (In addition to it's horribly rotten condition) was the lake was super calm today. Almost no wind. You could see the ice pack moving in. It made lots of noise once it hit the pack ice. . . <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4pZLGWg5diQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> GoPro battery called it quits after about 25 minutes. . . haha. Cold.

You're right, it's not ideal. It is practical, and useful, but certainly not ideal. Technically a tailboard block should have the bigger sheave on the top too, but we let that one slide. . .

In my experience trees that have corrected their back lean to the point where it is no longer obvious where the favor lies have over-corrected, and will sit back on the back cut if faced toward the original lean. If they twist back its usually to the point where they'll go that way. I'd figure out a way to set a line. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
