Sounds great. I feel like there's something to be said about an apprentice who is seeking knowledge independent of you. Then when they decide to go to the mentor with questions they are more pointed, and not wasting the mentor's limited time.

Lol. We moved up from beautiful Maui, Hawaii. Those were my stomping grounds. I think they both might enjoy it, certainly Aggie. Pony rides, wood crafts, polar Express ride. One can hope. He said something about "if you find a good tree appraisal class" or something. I do know one of the proposals was from a guy talking about the 10th edition... ;) tree appraisal is all over the place in my experience, it's a tough one.

I think often I get over worked and tired, and go with "do it this way" because I think it's going to get us done sooner. I am in no way attached to my way, if someone else has a better way. Probably not the best for teaching. I do take time to go over theory and best practices stuff. I'm totally learning this whole passing on knowledge thing.

These can be great for training, but I've found on the other extreme that sometimes people can become mindless extensions of your arm with too much guidance. When you don't have them working it seems less efficient then it could have been without them. It's frustrating when a year in, and something obvious is missed, or you find yourself explaining every detail when they could've figured it out based on just looking and the scenario. I think they are awesome to improve on a well oiled crew, awesome for training with a 2 man crew, but there's something to be said about letting them apply their eyes and mind to figure out what's going on.

I've been using Tapatalk lately which lamely doesn't show emoticons. so I have to imagine what "shifty" means, cause that's all I see. I'm picturing Willie hiding behind a wall looking back and forth to see who called his name.
