Seems like the spar that broke, the rigging point was lower than where you were cutting. If it had been higher, less force. But that piece that broke probably weak anyway. Better rope running might have helped. Add it all up in physics, force won. Kudos on everyone living another day.

First thing I thought of was before the video. You set up a lift in a grave section?! That's a big no no to me, outriggers on Graves (not solid ground) gives me the.... Willie's. Like others mentioned, get the hanger out. If it wasn't secured, why bother rigging the top? Why did you lose the other good leader and rig off the bad one? Another thing I try to do is fall out to one side to not add load to the rigging unnecessarily. All that said, that spar came out early, must've been very compromised. But, I think everyone that had run a lift, has gone to big at one time or other. Thanks for putting it out there

I'm doing that in my orchard too. Over the winter low spots would be full black water. Compost tea every time it rains!

Licensed Timber Operator. We need it for the permitting process and if we sell the wood or wood product.

Back in Cali. Started my LTO class. And since any tree work I have done does not count towards my hours of 3000 I need for my application, I'll have to take a lessor rated restricted license until I can accumulate those hours over the next 2 or 3 years. Basically, a firewood type harvest license. Oh well, getting an education for when it comes time. At least I know the players and the game better.

You might lose a little height in that configuration. But you can gain height as well. Think about heeling the log up so one end is high, other lower. Then slowly set it down, let go, back up, spike it with the top of the grapple and push.

We blew a little snake out of the irrigation last night. I had to work hard not to mash it with a spade. I'm not a fan of snakes

    Hey Willie:

Inbred people struggle with technology in general, and I can't figure out how to post stuff so that everyone can view it, so...unfortunately the burden lies on you to come up with an answer. Does a Humboldt minimize the slam factor as opposed to a conventional? For some reason, I have it in my head that because of the mechanical action of the Humboldt, there is more pressure generated on the stump than in a Conventional notch. Am I wrong? What would Jerry say, etc.?

How's the new baby doin'? How are you? I miss you.

    Jed
