Still snow on the shady side of the slopes at 6-7 thousand feet, here. Haven't seen that for about 20 years. Temps, that high up, are running 75-80 and dry. Going up this weekend to San Hedrin, about 6000 feet, to see the late bloom.

My first Tree Care Industry Show (TCI) was in Charlotte, N.C, November 1996. Not that long ago, really. Most of the people I met there were long time mid-west and east-coast private tree company owners, and then there were the many young-un's starting up. Much to my surprise most of those people told me they had never used a wedge in their career, and most of the rest had not a clue as to what a wedge was. It was culture shock at the time, but it's change significantly in the years since the internet. Today most those boys know the importance of the wedge in their work. Good post, and I like the pouch. You made that out of an old Wes Co high-top. Sexy.

if people like Ron are scooped up and deported to meet certain death, at the hands of ISIS... than the law is wrong. thats all there is to it. You would have to be sick in the head to think that the punishment fits the crime. I have no idea what the crime is nor does it even matter.

Oh, there's always lots to learn, as I, too, have experimented using questionable techniques working with trees just to see if the results would ever be consistent enough to draw firm conclusions. Since trees are so highly variable in nature the results of some experiments never were consistent enough to draw any firm conclusion. Well, other than, stick with approved and recognized techniques. Nonetheless it is fun sometimes, often frightening, to experiment with trees.

Maybe whatever he did as a young man prevented him from becoming a citizen. I Have no idea of his life as a young man. Certainly no threat to anyone these days, he's well over 60.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/12/politics/detroit-ice-iraqi-christians/index.html I live in what is reffered to as Chaldean town in Detroit. Most of the Chaldeans have moved out of the neighborhood in the last decade or so buy many still remain. Last week on the block where I lived until two years ago, my old neighbor was whisked away in the early morning by border control. It appears he was one of the guys mentioned in this article.

Stump Analysis 101. I love Jed's stumps. They are all perfect. Least the one's he shows us, anyway. We all can not make perfect stumps every time. Fact, I'm been ashamed of some of my own, from time to time, but I strive to do the best I can. A quote from Jon Taylor of Ft. Bragg, an old cohort of mine, "Sometimes, Jer, to get a tree to go where you want you got to make an ugly stump." He said that to me over 40 years ago, and he's still falling timber today. Murph, not having been there, the geometry of the stump doesn't appear too out of the norm, for dealing with a side leaner anyway, but I can't help but agree with Brian about the evidence of whittling the stump with a compromised bar and chain. Been there and done myself that a few times, even. Now, "You know when you made a really bad stump when you cut it off at ground level, and try to hide it."

I was dinged heavily in a competition by a treemagineer for using a cmi pulley. 10 points off my ariel rescue. The reason given was that the gate could pass through the hole on the pulley. Since I used the cmi pulley as a remote anchor I was exposing myself to a cross loading situation. It was the best aerial rescue I ever performed... set up a three to one and did the whole talking bit in rhyme. It annoys the hell out of me to see a DMM pulley now with a hole big enough to pass the gate of the biner. Still bitter about it clearly... lol

    Hi Kevin, it's Mike Meredith.

Sorry - I just discovered this message today. I go by Tuebor here and over on TreeBuzz also.

I did meet you briefly at the Bartlett open house back in March. Since then I friended you on Facebook and joined the Rope Runner group. I connected with Johnny Pro when he was in town and videoed his TRT explanation. I met Jeremy and Mike a day or two later while we were climbing in a park. (Mike tried my skateboard and decided to get one for himself - but don't blame me if he cracks his skull and misses work, LOL.)

I live in Grosse Pointe Woods and took up recreation climbing last fall after meeting Bo Burke up north, in October. Love it because I'm a kid at heart. Let me know next time you have a job on the east side - I'd like to watch. I've been out of work for a while, recovering from a bout of cancer, but when I get back later this summer I'll have some tree work for you guys.

    Mike
