No doubt a home invasion for the residents must be a highly stressful and often panicking situation. Following the course of the law could be difficult.

One of the better revealing views of the catastrophe in only one coastal town. It's still hard to believe. Imagine seeing it with your own eyes. Many residents in the area are having a hard time sleeping to this day, the insecurity is a big problem. The government isn't doing much, busy hyping the olympics and putting money into preparing. The emperor went and waved and said to keep your chin up, then he quickly took off. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GTM9hIIPwTw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Working in 90% humidity is only for people that were born in such a place and have gotten used to it. I tried once as an outsider, it wasn't just being uncomfortable from the heat, my lungs felt like they were getting real messed up and I developed a persistent cough. Giant centipedes and all the other unknown to me before creepy crawlers that liked it were scary too. I got out of there.

Reminded me of a real hot scene in the movie. "Ray". Ray did dirty on the Raelette in the middle. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i8DRen60X10" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Do you look at the laws or at the culture when comparing crime rates between countries. Does Canada have the inner city strife that the US has, which is where the vast majority of violent crimes take place.

I believe the law changed in Canada pertaining to people convicted of severe crimes being eligible for parole, making it harder to possibly get out of prison, or at least there was a new amendment put forth about two years ago to help ensure longer sentences. C-53 it was called. I guess more than a few thought it necessary. I can't find if it passed or not, which is what I was asking. It's not hard to find cases of people being charged with defending their home, what's harder is knowing whether or not the news sources are legit or not. Here is a recent case pending, lots of websites mention it. Perhaps this is a more legitimate news source being local, not an opinion oriented information type one since they also give the weather. Lots of sites seem to pick up stories from other sources, who knows from where the information originates. http://thechronicleherald.ca/novascotia/1487818-break-in-suspect-shot-man-in-home-charged#.WXM6Wmvlgdg.facebook

It looks like plenty enough have been charged, not just investigated. Conviction or not is something else. The lawyers must make out either way.

Fireworks is big. There are some places that put on amazing shows, trying to outdo each other. Good for business too, in larger towns all the hotels get booked up and the food concessions and whatnot. People come from a long distance to check it out, the roads and trains are packed. A room with a balcony in front of the show over the lake won't come cheap.

Last night a friend if mine had his annual lots of friends party too coincide with the big fireworks show that the municipality puts on. He lives in front of the river where they hold the event, close enough where you can sometimes feel some blast of air on your face from the shockwaves. The town gets businesses to sponsor in addition to what they put in, something like two hundred grand in total. You can get about an hour and a half of fireworks for that amount. My friend provides all the beer you can drink from kegs and his son-in-laws do a bbq. Its cool to see what new types of fireworks the company doing the shooting off has in store. At the end there is a big lull and it gets people thinking if it's over, then they shoot off everything at once for five minutes and it's like the world is coming to an end, a little scary and spectacular at the same time. You get the impression that the fireworks people really get off on that. I ride my bike home through the stop and go traffic, helps to relieve too much beer and bbq.

Squish, has the law changed where in Canada even the people convicted of the most heinous crimes and sentenced to life, are eligible for parole after 25 years? I read of some high profile cases where crimes were very bad indeed and people got out. Some out not for long before they were tried and sent back for something else. There was one where someone was paroled and the public issued a warning that the person is dangerous and they should stay away from him. Canada has or had some strange laws concerning justice. Of course people in the US get paroled and commit crimes after released, but you rarely see a mass murderer walking the streets again.

I can't for the life of me understand a law that says you can't use physical force on someone that invades your home but hasn't attacked you...yet. What's it called, the let's hold hands and play ring around the rosie law?

You know you are in trouble when you ask for the new guy to fetch your water bottle hanging on the driver side of the cab inside by the steering wheel... RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DOOR. And he brings you back the bottle that has been sitting under the spare tire in the bed of the flat bed that had gear on top of it and still contained water from over a month ago............ True Story.

People wear or carry "weapons" all the time. Ladies in high heels if grabbed from behind...your car or house keys can do a nice job if dragged across someone's face. Ladies walking to their cars, holding their keys in a certain way is something to keep in mind.
