We hit a point when only two of five saws ran , took time off and went up cape to a shop. He had at least fifty old saws on repairs pile. For a small bribe he put our three first and some supplies we were back at it.

Correct , heading into emergency zones ... Saws , Bars , Chains , Gas , Files , and repairs plus Food , and Water are unavailable (as well as rooms). We learned this after going down self contained for Hurricane Bob on Cape Cod in '85 ... also local theft of saws was a big one , main problem was getting hired for first job w out local contacts. Though once we got one and they saw we could cut circles around the local landscapers , we had a hundred more.

Have had Two Dodge and three GMC 3/4's ... Ranger was tempting w a sweet steel cap , the Dodge came w a hard tonneau cover which keeps gear dry and out of sight of the junkie's.

Chipper has to be under 5000 lbs. (Morbark 7") ... Dodge says it pulls 6000 w frame hitch ... Trailer will handle everything else and is homemade I have no idea of weight though we have had green blocks upwards of a Cord on it otr.

Been close before but always bought full size 3/4's ... Even started a Ranger thread here a long time ago when I needed information. Had my final decision down to a Ranger or a Dakota. Though both 4WD and in reasonable shape used I went the Dodge ... Almost went the heavy duty Ranger w better ground clearance. Dodge says this small truck w 6 Cyl. will safely tow my Chipper and Trailer. Anyone out run Dakota's ?

Ha! , Now I have to post .... Two exceptions (one friends , other regular Customers) when they broke out such delicious stuff we couldn't refuse.

I wish all the People that cared so much about an eclipse were mirrored by People that actually give a shit about pollution and even global warming. Earth will continue to orbit the Sun , the Moon will continue to orbit the Earth long after we kill all life here ...

Just bought another used power company truck ... Choice was Dodge or Ford. Went w Dodge Bros... Have had had three GMC's and this will by my third Dodge. Parts are a squeak more expensive , whatever. Both companies make good trucks I figure.

You just have to learn what to trust , period. Secondary branches are the best backup , if unavailable can always set a sling w a Carabiner further down the trunk and run the line through it. Makes one feel a little better in brittle tops.

Agreed , I have a friend who was playing guitar and switched to drums , he said he loved skins because the instrument is really endless for kit and style. I feel the same way about rigging , endless ... From the simple line through a crotch to drift lining w GRCS and POW. So variable. I guess if it were making the call for several crews I would gear them all up with the simple kit yet have one comprehensive complex kit at the shop for when sales call looks like it would help that crew on that day.
