The entire discussion is ridiculous. Anybody that thinks they can stop some mentally unbalanced person from shooting up a school by passing yet another gun restricting law is idiotic. No matter what kind of gun you think you can ban, a determined individual will just find a different type of gun to use. Even a six shooter pistol will kill people, and if a person has 3-4 of them he can fire off a hell of a lot of rounds before having to reload. Nancy Pelosi wants to ban 'assault weapons' and made up her list based on what they looked like. The mean, scary looking ones have to be more dangerous, right? How much good will THAT do? IMO the reason we see 'school shootings' as a thing is because schools are gun free zones and a determined psychotic is obviously going to go for the biggest dramatic effect. Where can you find lots of defenseless people in one spot, where you have lots of time to kill a bunch of them before somebody shows up who can shoot back at you?

I don't know. A 50 year old rifle most likely isn't a semi right? I have a Savage target rifle in 308 which has a 1\4 moa so is deadly as fuck to one person,. It holds 4 rounds so could be bad for 4 in capable hands , it is a bolt action for accuracy. I also have a Keltek RFB which is a semi bullpup in 308 which I have 20 round clips for. Bottom line if I want to kill one mother fucked I will take the savage , rampage the RFB. Only reason for a semi is rapid fire so even though less accurate more hits. I could stand to loose my RFB to reduce innocent casualties but it's a slippery slope. Do they then take my semi pistol? The real problem is the soscialtal problem where mass shootings have become a THING. WTF?

What does a yearly trim have to do with "topping"? So you don't condone hedges either, I take it. Most hedges here are made from Beech, Field maple and Hornbeam. Those are trees ( or will be if they live long enough) so giving them a twice yearly going over with the hedge trimmers, is a sin to you and Brian, I guess. So what would be okay to do the yearly haircut thing on. Carrots?

It took a big chunk of wood for me to put an underbed in it. I usually just cut straight through and pushed.

No freaking out, just expressing an opinion. But I guess that isn't always welcomed here if it isn't in line with the 'in' crowd. I do not think any tree should be trimmed with hedge trimmers. I think it looks hideous. It has nothing to do with Russia and nothing to do with the effort put forth by the man holding the hedge trimmers. Just a terrible thing to do to a tree in my opinion. I guess I will have to refrain even further from expressing my opinions here. Seems my every thought rocks the boat and we can't have that.

Madrone is really a beautyful tree. Growing between the dark conifers out on the West coast, it really looks fine with that smooth reddish bark. One of my favourite trees. There is a relative, which grows in Portugal, Arbutus Arbutus, where Madrone is Arbutus Menziesii. The Portuguese ferment and destill the fruits, the resulting liqour is called Medronho. Strong stuff, I had some last time I was in Portugal.

Particularly when you consider how hard Madrone is. About like our Beech.

Nice job, Andreij. I do about a month of hedge trimming every year, but that is taking it to another level. They really look great in the summer picture. Lots of work, though, compared to pollarding them as we do here.
