I leave throw lines in the tree if I have to come back the next day...never climbing lines, just too many things can go wrong.

Well done Frans! Sometimes I think some of those snooty 'professionals' are offended that we charge decent money, at the very least they are often very surprised. They cannot equate our 'Manual Labour' jobs and noisy machinery with the investment of time and money and study that it took and takes for us to show up and trim their precious trees. I've been fortunate by and large...but every now and then you get one.

Certainly the root zone of that palm had been interfered with...combine that with some of the other things you mentioned, frost excess rain and it could have made the palm susceptible to a range of bugs or disease that you have over there... I like Palmettos (Sabal bermudana in particular...) and coconuts, dwarf date...hate the big date palms and chinese fans, not keen on washies,

Yes, quite a bit cheaper for some things... $15AUD for a throw bag vs $45... I always check around local (and that usually means on the mainland) for prices before I order overseas. Found a good supplier for Silky stuff here and sometimes can get free shipping so it pays to check. If the Oz price has a reasonable markup considering currency exchange, shipping and a bit of profit, I'll buy local, but not if it is ridiculous.

I got my first order a couple days ago, and my second is already in Australia somewhere. Treestuff sent everyone who ordered during the sale an email to say that because they had such a huge response to the sale that orders are a bit backed up and please be a bit patient, they are working on it flat out. Complainers need to chill.

Bermy replied to a thread Problem with MS461 Idle in Chainsaws!
Ok...I was taught to have the idle on a top handle saw fairly high...and check for chain creep with the chainbrake off...if chain creeps, tighten it up a bit. Balance between idle speed and chain tension. I understand how it might not apply to big saws with long bars...but then I don't use them (unless you consider 20' a long bar...not)

And the most simple explanation of the chain still moving is chain a bit too loose...but you've probably already gone past that...

Bermy replied to a thread In The News... in Odds and Ends
Seems to me Kevin that your source of news is pretty broad. Being able to distil it all and decide what is 'truth' is the difficult part. So much of what we call our 'opinion' is shaped by our experience and influences of life (including parents) We like AlJazeera too. Initially we were scared off by the name and the fact it comes out of the middle east, but watching it with an open mind it is pretty good news coverage of a LOT of the world. BBC was ok...until we were in Israel and SAW stuff happen, then hearing it on the BBC made it sound like something completely different. SBS here in Australia covers a lot of proper WORLD news. Then there are small things like Landline (rural news but with international implications, especially trade) Compass, Catalyst...I don't profess to know who owns them, and that seems to play a large part these days as to what kind of 'spin' may be put on news. I get sick and tired of the politicians on TV, as soon as one lot does something, the other lot are right on with their sanctimonius 'isn't it awful, we would do SO much better' drivel. Reactive politics...sheesh why not say something fresh and original.

Good Pass. Yes, I could do those trees, but it would take some logistical planning, good equipment and good help. If the first one on your other thread took you 14hrs...those would give you a hiding you might not recover from! Stephen gives good advice. I have one or two names ready for referral if I decide to pass on a job. Clients like the fact that you are not leaving them in the lurch, and yes, they often come back to you first for other work, even if you have handballed it to someone else.
