Yes, one of my oldest and closest friends invested in bitcoin when they were about 320 USD each. I spoke to him before xmas and we got chatting. He seemed chipper enough as Bitcoin was valued about 17500USD at the time IIRC... He said no, he had sold all his bitcoin at 7000 USD. I asked if he was gutted, but he had taken the profit and bought various other shares... Tesla, GW Pharmaceuticals, Japanese Bonds and a few other crypto currencies. He is an intelligent bloke and has been following this sort of thing for years. The reason he was happy was he had checked his portfolio and there was over half a million Euro's in his account. I bought into a currency called Ripple. he reckoned they were gonna go up a fair bit, so bought 1000GBP worth. They have since gone up 4 times in a month. He bought his at 0.22 cents, it was around 60 when i bought. I spoke to him the other week and he was overjoyed as his portfolio was worth over a million when ripple his around 2.80 cents. it is now around 1.60 Euros. I believe Ripple will go up in price but not by Bitcoin standards but I had a gamble with a bit of cash I had. I wouldn't be putting anything into Crypto currencies that I couldn't afford to lose.

I once dropped a polesaw out of the tree to the ground guy. It must have caught something and caught the cuff of my glove and pulled the glove right off my hand. I instantly felt sick thinking it must have been a bad cut as there was zero pain. I saw my glove on the blade on the ground and expected the whole back of my hand to have opened up. To my surprise, not even a scratch. I don't know how I managed that one. I have hit my left forearm before, through a jacket and jumper and look my sleeve. The branch I was on snapped and I lost my footing in the middle of a cut. Only about 10 foot in the air. The sugoi just slapped me and wasn't raked across. By the time I got to the floor, there was blood dripping out and of the sleeve of my jacket and my long sleeved, grey t shirt was maroon in colour. I am pretty vascular and had pierced a vein. It was squirting out. A trip to the hospital and 4 stitches later I was as good as gold. One stitch in each hole. Those Silky saws definitely bite.

Isnt that the truth. In the UK there are a number of Police who aren't bullies or what not. Sadly they have their hands tied by rules and regulations not allowing them to do the job they are trained for. Over here in Norway, the Police seem to be seen in a lot more positive light. It is a respected job with oversubscription every year. Back on topic though, the Norway government voted on the December the 14 to decriminalise all drugs. Not entirely the same situation as California but definitely a step in the right direction.

That is why I said a lot, not all.' Another friend or rather twins were out on a night out for their 18th in the early 90's. They were at a rave club and acting a bit camp and probably pilled up. A couple of police set upon them as they were leaving the club. David was dragged into a Police van via a head lock and somehow damaged his neck. His twin brother was also apprehended and David complained further at the station. Not too sure what happened after that other than David is still in a wheel chair to this day. He tried to sue the Police for the damage they had caused, they stuck together and said he must have injured himself in the cell. BS. They caused irreversible nerve and spinal cord damage. He ended up suing the duty doctor in charge and finally got some compensation. Not enough to spend the last 26 years in a wheelchair and registered disabled though. That shit is life changing. As I said not all, but I don't like how they can create jumped up charges and then get the system or their friends to back them up. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

It is definitely a fucked up world. The police IMO and IME will do anything to stick together. A lot, not all might I add, are bullies on a power trip. Just as an example. A good friend of mine got into a bit of an altercation at one of his own house parties. A chivvy neighbour came round and Aaron ending up sending him back into the street unconscious. Police arrived about 30 mins later. There were 3 service Royal Marines in the house, a solicitor, teacher and about 4 other people. they tried to laugh it off and the police got shirty and Aaron asked them to leave his house, at which they tried to arrest him. One of the RM'S filmed the lot on his mobile. When they got to the station the desk sergeant wrote down the charges and apparently my friend had assaulted the officer by biting him on the left ankle. To which the second attending officer confirmed. It went to court, Aaron was looking at 2-3 years in jail and a large fine... even with the video evidence provided by the Marine and witness statements. The only reason he was acquitted was because the Assaulted officer stated that he had been bitten on the right ankle, where as his statement on admission to the station was his left ankle. So they not only lied, the other officer confirmed the story, only for them to drop them selves in the shit by forgetting one of the most critical part of the lies. Any they wonder why we don't trust coppers...?

Ouch. It happens Fiona. Heal quick. Personally I wouldn't bother with the cutproof sleeves. They are cumbersome and very hot. Just don't put yourself in the same situation again. When ever I have clipped my self bad with a silky, I always try and work out how it happened. Then later on I might find myself in a similar position and think I ... oh yeah, that's how I got myself last time... and then try and reposition. Accidents can happen as that is the nature of the term.

To the original post... Lose some weight and get the knee stronger and life will be a hell of a lot easier. The excess weight can't be helping the knee. How you choose to get the weight down, is up to you. Good luck with it all. Climbing is good exercise but carrying excess weight is just asking for RSI's.

Ask me again this time next year. This year I have quit, packed up and moved country. Shifted the whole family to Norway, settled in there. Been back to the UK a few times to finalise the sale of the house and my work truck. Only really worked a few days in September and October so I saved the invoicing till November to make the accounting process easier. Also I had to wait till my papers were in order for starting my business. I managed to bill 130000 Norwegian crown just contract climbing in November and December. Got a new truck on order and a chipper coming in January. So next year I plan on a better year. I will be happy if I can get a handful of my own jobs a month and build on that. The rest of the time I will be contract climbing as it is pretty good money and no stress. It will be interesting looking back this time next year and reflecting on what I have written and hopefully it will have happened. Looking forward to the challenge. All the best everyone for 2018.
