Jim, Rob's father passed away in the last year or two of 9/11 related cancer as well. He was a NYC fireman also.

Yes Jim. He was 3 years older, so I didn't know him well in school, but got to know him after. How did you hear of him?

You guys doing first responder jobs have a tough deal. I'm glad you can do it, because I never could. Speaking of first responders, an acquaintance of mine was laid to rest today. I went to school with him, but he ended up in NYC not long after he graduated. He died of a brain tumor they say came from being exposed to all the crap at the WTC on 9/11. Only 43. RIP Rob.

They are getting bad around here. Not from anything people are doing, just over populating and not much hunting pressure. Gene Shalit has a house near here and he had a bear get in years ago. When the cops got they're they didn't know which was the bear, and which was Gene.

I was quizzed by a couple of crunchy hippies about what happens to the calves in our hutches. I said they were dairy replacements. Then they wanted to know what happened when they stop producing. I said somebody eats them.:O:lol: Did they think they went to a cow rescue facility for adoption?

I burn pine in my owb. It doesn't leave much ash. I could burn 40 cord of pine slabs and not have to clean the firebox all winter. It just takes twice the volume of hardwood. I have to get rid of the slabs from the mill, so it works out ok. I don't burn pine if I don't have to.

Squish, don't underestimate the difficulty of rotating back to being an employee. It's a bitch. Maybe you are different, but I don't get that vibe from you. I've tried, but it just doesn't work for me. All the things that made me go on my own are still there.

Its not the shave i mind, it's the feeling of having been attacked with a belt sander 36 hours later.

I haven't shaved in weeks. Not because i want a beard, more because I'm in protest of having to shave. I hate shaving.

Husky saws seem to be easy to work on. I have done nothing to my 395, although I think it needs to be adjusted. Its the only saw I run these days.

Not being prepared for lunch is a major time suck. I was very guilty of that when I was a landscraper employee years ago. Now, if I'm working for someone, I bring lunch. As an employee, i feel its my obligation to show up on time with lunch and water ready to go.

What is the current opinion on green chips and robbing nitrogen? I heard the theory years ago and it resurfaced again this winter.

That's pretty important if you are a snake. Wouldn't want to get you half way down and have you get stuck.
