Ailathus is in my opinion the worst tree we have in Europe. Almost worth starting a thread about, to keep newbies from getting hurt or worse.

Brian, it has happened to me. I don't consider myself a gormless newbie, do you? That moment when you are being pulled in and know you have fucked up badly is one that stays with you for the rest of your time in the trees.

Me, too. We attached the GPS tracher to our new chipper with zip ties. Stuck in into a bunch of wires ans zipped it in. You'd need a PHD in stealing equipment to find it. Now I'm just waiting for the gang that stole my first one to run off with the new machine. Please, please, please...........steal it.

The common practice around here is to cover the terminals and attached leads in something non corrosive like silicone jelly. When I've actually managed to overcome my natural laziness and done that, it has worked well.

Not really Reg. The gap at the codoms was terribly tight towards the end. I made the cut towards the middle instead of boring it. No pinch on the saw that way. He would lift and they would float away towards the road. Load never passed over me.

Nice truck Reg! Won't pull fast, but she'll pull. Here some picts from caning the remainder of the stem. Better Stig? Out camping with the scouts this weekend. Just came down to the beach from Fremont Peak. No Internet up there.

There is a limit to the amount of hardware I'll drag into a tree in order to climb SRT. The Akimbo fits nicely within that limit. Honestly, with the amount of metal in that set-up, one might as well drag an old Swedish Bolinder-Munktell tractor up. Since you yanks probably never have seen one of those, : <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ljaRi5nOKTE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Exactly. When the legs don't croos, it is a Valdotain. ( Which I was taught back in the days before most members here were out of diapers) When they cross, it is a Valdotain tresse, aka VT.

Nope. It is a Valdotain, not a Valdotain Tresse. Tresse means braid, there is no braid in it. That comes with the Valdotain tresse or as we know it: VT. The original Valdotain was simply a series of turns around the climbing ropen that fell into a certain figure, when put under load. I remember Jerry B. saying that he climbed on that for years, never knowing the name. So you could call it a 6-1 V and be correct. Doesn't matter shit, really. Just old history of climbing knots.

May be just me. It often is. Like I frequently point out, English is not my first language. But read your first post again and tell me it doesn't come of awfully cheap. I mean, if I lust enough for a piece of equipment, I'll buy it. Be happy about supporting the , in this case, expatriate Brit who invented it. Not wait till I can get it cheap at some yard sale, then go here to find a manual for it. That sure is the way to encourage people to invent new stuff for us all. I'm probably reading too much into this. The way you wrote it, combined with Paul recently talking about his trouble with Sherrill and being disillusioned about inventing things just made me tee off on you. Won't happen again. Sorry. On the other hand, I was the one who suggested that Jaime do a fund raiser in order to get the Akimbo off the ground. I was also the one to put $1000 into right at first to show I believed in him.

Ain't working for me. Last time I saw Levi, he was about knee high to a mid size dwarf. Them are some puny trees you are felling, if that is the yard stick:lol:

But you still went the cheap way and bought a used one. Couldn't handle the thought of Paul making a profit from his invention, I guess. That'll pave the way for many new inventions to make our lives easier, for sure.

Damn Pete, that is seriously ugly. I had to use the basket on the crane today after two picks and some binding of the trunk and a branch union. Nasty bugger. Don't know if Mike got and pics. Nail on the head Stig. Hate these dead buggers. Some fodder from yesterday after rigging some logs off so the crane handled the last 4 picks over an electric box and a drop off. Used the crane to load them onto and into trailers and went to the next nasty. Levi in the pics for reference.

I pick those up real easy. When I came back to the Californian coast after beeing a buckaroo in Idaho, everybody told me I sounded like a God damned cowboy:lol: Be fun to add some, though. Always been fashinated by the way the Scots speak.
