Jay, I love that tune but I think that version illustrates what's always bothered me about modern electric blues. Silence is the canvas on which music is painted(I stole that) and there seems to be an overwhelming desire among artists these days to fill every corner of that canvas. Willie Dixon wrote Spoonful for Howlin' Wolf and plays standup bass on this track, with the great Hubert Sumlin adding just enough electric guitar to play off of the Wolf's deep and growly voice. Gary Moore was a great guitarist but probably plays ten times as many notes as Sumlin does in the original.

What they are doing, is taking the original Cream version of Spoonfull and since Baker and Bruce apparently couldn't get Clapton ( those are the original "Cream" crew) to play with them, they brought Gary Moore in.

Whatever Moore may be ( I don't consider him a very good guitarist, more one in the making a lot of noise, fast, category!) he is no Eric Clapton.

I agree that in the original Cream versions of tunes like "spoonfull", Crossroads" etc. there is an awful lot of noise and notes.

But there is also a great bluesy feeling, that is totally lacking in Gary Moore.

Jeff Beck and Imelda May covering "Walking in the Sand". Pretty cool jam session. The drummer gives 'er pretty good. The best version I could find even though it's a touch out of sync. Crappy youtube.
