Lots of good pics, Robert! Doug used to hang out here until he got his helicopter. Doug is most likely the most free spirit on the internet. He glides in and out and so slick you never know just exactly where or who he is.Here today, gone tommorrow or is he?

Every so often I catch just fleeting glimpses of his presence ,hither and yon .You just never know if you see a whirly bird in the sky, just might be he.:/: For that matter a personality shows up some place on the internet then gone like the wind. The true "easy rider" of cyberspace.:)

Well put Al, I personaly have had the pleasure to meet the man and stay with him and his wife. Pretty cool guy, loaned me his R22 helicopter for flying lessons (that takes some balls) his boat, jet ski, etc.

Last time I went there I asked him to fly me over to a good freinds brothers house for a quick visit, shoulda seen the look on his face when we were hovering right out over his front porch. Doug is a great guy, I'll tell him to stop by and say hello.

Rotax Robert
12-08-2007, 12:41 AM
Most, I mean all but a few of the pics look like this. friggin hundreds of them.

rumination
12-08-2007, 12:44 AM
That looks like light exposure or x-ray exposure. Either the film got zapped repeatedly in an airport somewhere, or the folks that developed the film screwed up and accidentally exposed the negatives to light before developing. I'm guessing the latter. I worked at a custom black and white photo lab many years ago and this would happen every once in a blue moon. When it did happen we would always give the customers free film and free developing/printing in compensation.

Edit: the other possibility is that your friend's camera has a light leak. Ask him if he is still having this problem.

Rotax Robert
12-08-2007, 12:47 AM
I would'nt think that would happen to 15 to 20 rolls. I watched them start putting the film rolls in the machine befor I even left the store.

rumination
12-08-2007, 12:50 AM
There is the possibility that the machine was not properly sealed. We always developed film by hand, so I'm not sure how those automated machines work. And I edited my first post to note that your friend's camera might also have a light leak.

MasterBlaster
12-08-2007, 05:57 AM

Skwerl
12-08-2007, 06:26 AM
Probably could have bought a decent digital camera for less than the cost of all that film. No more developing, just plug it into the computer and move the pictures over. Sorry you lost all those pics R.

Frans
12-08-2007, 09:27 AM
It is good to keep a 35mm camera on hand with film. A regular picture with negatives is the only type of photo allowed in a court of law

Magnus
12-08-2007, 09:37 AM
Not many develop manually here anymore and sometimes the not so new roll's seem to need a bit of know how and feeling when developing.

I had this happen to me once, found a old roll and the guy asked me to get it developed manually. I found a photo club here and asked for help.

Got back very nice pic's!

Hey if I am not mistaken that gal is a guide & has fishing forum or used to I think. Let me see if I can find it.

Not to derail this underailable thread... LMAO...

Yes Jeff... she is a licensed fishing guide here in Washington...

www.thefishingoddess.com

She no longer is in the guiding business... she does take out some faithful long time clients every year. You would not belivev how she can row a drift boat. She had her husband and I in the boat once and she kept us in the current perfectly while pluggin' for Steelhead. That would be like rowing a drift boat with 2 linebackers in it.

She's a pretty cool chick. Know her and her husband a long time.

Probably could have bought a decent digital camera for less than the cost of all that film. No more developing, just plug it into the computer and move the pictures over. Sorry you lost all those pics R.

Remember, I said old freind, "Old bill on the hill as mention in prior posts" turned 70 last weekend and he has this old slr camera (think I said that right) and for its day was probably a good one. He has always told me that it would take pics like no other and its to bad they don't make this kinda quality into todays cameras...you know the story. Anyway, since I went digital I think I am going to give him my near NIB canon eos rebel 35mm if he does'nt want to go digital. He ment well and is a true freind so it is hard to get mad about it although I am dissapointed in losing a seasons worth of history.

No matter though, now I can just make the stories up sittin around the campfire and when someone calls BS on me I'll just say proove it, thats the way I remember it "aint that right old bill". Anyway I still have a ton of VHS video to transfer and will get it posted as time permits.

I guess that just gives me more reason to ask MB if I can start a Predator 2008 thread and we'll do it all again starting next spring.

Thanks for letting me share what I do with all you tree killers. I mean climbers.

Cut it thin when over30" then split it into blocks that end about15-18" easier to split or lift.

Been gone for the most part of a couple of weeks on my christmas break, so between traveling and visiting etc. I have not had much time to post but am back to work now where I do most of my posting from.

I got a call from Hotrod magazine and they want to do a special write-up on the Predator before Feb 1st to put in thier March issue. So I am running around trying to find a nice 30+ dia log and get the old girl all cleaned up for the photo shoot. I'll keep you all posted as to the time etc.

I'll get some more pics posted soon as things settle down a bit.

Notice the nice trophy for the win, kinda makes it look like my topping saw, except when I take it up the tree I gotta dull the spurs a bit so I can take the next step.

Will you be challenging the world record with this or perhaps it has been taken??
Last I know it was a Aussy guy with a Bike saw...

Perhaps it is diffrent classes?

Oops.. Revealing my low knollege of the subject here...

Magnus, I am pretty sure the Predator owns the worlds record with a 0.88 second thru a 30" log as well as the second fastest with a 0.94 these are the only sub 1 second cuts I have ever seen. The Aussy guy ( Gary's Iron Horse ) raced in cooma australia in the open class and not unlimited. I am sure though that Mike Forrester from the USA has the worlds record in 1 cut with a Cahoon 500cc honda in 27" wood. They have many records including cold start, hot start, one cut, three cuts as well as every size of wood and species known. All are very fast though.

My hat is of to you and the Predator!

I knew you had very fast times and that there was diffrent classes, but that is about as much as I knew!

I am impressed evry video I see of these unlimetid saws and I have yet to see one that impress as much as yours aand the unbeateble gestyre "Yes" with a bit of a nod on the head when cut is done.

I look forward to meet you andsee hear and smell this wonderful mashine up close!

I see how it works around here, I leave for a few days and everything falls apart. No worrys though, I will ask MB to keep this thread sticky'd and will go back and replace pics, videos etc. This may even give me a chance to clean-up the thread and get rid of all the lies and BS which should down size this thread to a about one paragraph.

Saturday is still on with Hotrod magazine so I should have new pics and video.

Last week we did a shoot for hotrod magazine which should be in the June issue. I worked a deal where I get all the photos they took but can not share them until 1 month after the issue, either that or they don't get to use the pics. The pics turned out great and are in a super high format so that I can do pretty much anything with them like posters, etc.

They wrote a great story about the saw which I will share some of as a sneek preview.

PREDATOR UNLIMITED HOTSAW HOTROD MAGAZINE JUNE-08

For most people, it’s probably hard to imagine why anyone would want to build a V-8 powered chainsaw. After all, it’s grossly overpowered, it’s completely impractical, and it burns high-octane fuel exclusively. It costs a lot of money to build and maintain, and the vast majority of the parts must be custom-fabricated. In other words, it’s just like any other hot rod.
44-year old Robert Andrews is a native of the Pacific Northwest, which is famous for two things: incessant rain, and big trees. As a result, logging isn’t just a job for many of the folks in this area, it’s a way of life; a chainsaw isn’t just a tool, it’s who you are.
So in the winter months, instead of building hot rods to go drag racing with in the summer, people like Robert are building “Hot Saws” –purpose-built chainsaws designed specifically for logging competitions, where the first saw through section of log wins. It’s drag racing for chainsaws.
In these competitions, the Top Fueler of the sport is the Unlimited Hot Saw, which can be powered by anything you want, as long as two men can lift it—and that’s the only rule. The quickest of the bunch can cut through a 30-inch diameter log in just over one second.
Having competed for years with various stock-bodied saws like a 20-hp, alky-burning Stihl (say “steel”) 088, Husqvarna 3120 and a monstrous 70-hp 325 cc Rotax, Robert finally made the decision to step up to the big leagues in the spring of ’01. “My Rotax was too big for the 6-cubic inch and over category, but not big enough to compete in Unlimited with the V-6 and V-8 powered saws,” Andrews explains. “So after my last third-place finish with the Rotax, I walked back into the stands where my wife, Ronda, was sitting, and she asked me, ‘Why don’t you have one of those big saws?’ That’s when I decided to build The Predator.”
As you might have gathered, The Predator isn’t the first V-8 hot saw ever built; by Andrews’ best recollection, that honor goes to a couple of boys nicknamed “The Hernia Brothers” (for obvious reasons) who debuted a 700+ lb., iron-block, 307-inch Chevy-powered hot saw about 25 years ago. However, as of this writing, the Predator is still the baddest. In the last two years, Andrews says it’s been beaten only once, and that was when it broke the chain.
The Predator is a lot like a drag car in that it requires a warm up procedure, and it even has a pit crew. “We have a lot more fun than drag racers, though,” says Andrews. “We drink beer all day and only work for 1.2 seconds.”
