That's awesome Craig. I am officially jealous.

Weather here this summer has been great, staying between 87 and 97 for most of the summer. I think its supposed to be a hundred tomorrow but I am skeptical.

Same here Darin. Much as I will complain about the heat, we really have had a mild summer thus far. Guess the triple digits are on their way here as well. Yeah! Just in time for fair weekend

Hurricane Irene is on her way to Boston. Lining up contractors and triple checking all of our equipment is the order of the day.

Plenty worried about flooding from Irene - the eye is expected to go up the Ct. River Valley (plus or minus 20 miles from my place in the northeasternmost part of Vermont). Then there are the many hundreds of potential projectiles (translated "potted plants on benches") to be put somedamnwhere. My list is already 38 separate items long and growing. Oh yeah, we have to do client work tomorrow AND haul firewood (while it's still dry) before the storm. Seems like hurricane prep was easier when I lived in a place that expected them.

We are having thunderstorms and warnings of possible fires from strikes. We have a fire real close to the house here.. Wind from the storm took out a power pole and started a fire. Tomorrow is supposed to be like this as well.

HAHAHAHA!

I am sure a couple neighbors have that covered.. Kind of busy in the next ridge over from us and over the house. Fire crews are speeding by. Looks like they have made some fast progress.
It is right behind a couple customers houses just over the ridge. We can about wave at each other with binocs.

pretty pleasant around here all the last two weeks and forecast the next week as well. 25-28C highs with 12-14C lows overnight, barely a cloud in the sky, July came 2 months late for us! :)

It's been a bit nippy here as a result of the weather disturbance caused by the eastern seaboard hurricanes .Cold enough to turn the geothermal from cooling mode to heating mode .

Some of the maples are turning colors .They turn before a frost and are probabley the most vivid with their colors .

Thunderstorms have been making their way down the mountains a little further each day.. Yesterday, one just skirted by us by a mile and drenched everything South of us. I wish I could have got a picture of the double rainbow that followed it. Today we got a drenching. Right after I descended out of that pine, it started.. got rained on a bit as I was stacking the brush. I no sooner got in the house and started dinner... whooosh... Still raining ...

A bit of a storm here yesterday as well.

I haven't been game to comment on the weather lately it's been a good winter and spring was early. It's been perfect working weather and things have been busy.

Got to mid 80's on Friday, then a change. Rained for about 24 hours and got cold, now I've got the fire going. Should warm up again tomorrow.8)

Paul B
09-25-2011, 11:31 AM
Thanks Willie. I took the pics to help keep up the useful plant ID training for Bub over the winter. I havent seen natural huckleberries near where we live in ages, too urbanized, no hemlock stumps. I remember them from my childhood, playing in the woods. The salal berries, I just ate a handful, wasnt actually sure about the palatability but they are pretty sweet.

They predicted a heavy winter here, the previous two being quite mild. For once they got it right. Those weather girls are so darn cute, got to cut them some slack.

Gigi, have you ever seen snow? I know it's a dumb question, but how many swimming suits do you have? Not just bikinis. :D

Yes, 1976 it snowed in Florida. I was in St. Augustine, Fl going to college and actually made a snow angel. Jay, seriously I have at least 20 bathing suits maybe more. My newest arrived yesterday, first one for the coming summer!! I have ones I fish in, others to get sun in, and others to bathe the dog in. hahahahahaha

No bikinis around here.:coldcold:

Still raining and getting worse so it might give up soon. Non stop for three days and nights now and I can't sleep it's that heavy.

Just glad I live here, some big floods up north.

Up here north of Stephen we had a really mild and dry December, snow pack was at something like 50% of normal. January brought winter, but still it was mostly at higher elevation than usual, the snow pack built up to something like 95% of normal.

Not much snow yet, thankfully, since it screws with logging big time.
But COLD, that is COLD as in " why didn't I get those insulated Hoffman caulk boots that my african partner is toasting his feet in, while I'm freezing mine off in my Wescos.

That kind of cold!

Don't you hate it when the other guy turns out to be so much smarter than you thought?

:D

It is more a question of him having run of the mill feet, whereas I have to go for customized boots.

But you figured I'd come up with an excuse like that, right?

Truth is, I wish like hell, with the weather we are having, that I'd taken the chance and ordered a pair of those Hoffmans with the last shipment from bailey's. If they didn't fit, i could probably have talked somebody into becoming the 3rd logger wearing caulks in this country.

No way I'm going to pay postage on just one pair.

That's a pretty good excuse, Stig.
:)

Now, why didn't you try on a pair while you were here the last couple of trips, eh?
:D

Because Bailey's has shut down their operation in Laytonville. You can't try stuff anymore, only order by net.
And I'm loath to order things for my weird feet, untried.

It was a big disappointment to us all, actually.
We had looked forward to visiting the store, like I've done before, to try out stuff that we'd order later.
Boots, harnesses, all the stuff that one wants to try out before ordering.
They used to treat me real nice, me coming all the way from Denmark and spending about 15 grand at their store every 2rd year, but alas, no more!

Se, I'm innocent.
You won't get me on this one.

I guess I believe you that Bailey's is the only place on the west coast that carries Hoffman boots...:P.

Stig, why don't you send a note to Sam Bailey and ask him if he has progressed in supplementing with another shipper besides only using the post office for international small orders? I got him going on it, and there was the promise that he would look into it. Some more encouragement from a good customer such as yourself couldn't hurt. Then ordering a pair of boots might not be so painful with what I would suspect would be the much better rates. The post office sucks for international shipping. They lost a lot of international business with the high shipping when surface ended, they should get real with what is better out there now.
