Every year for Christmas, my dad and stepmother would get a bunch of homemade tamales for us. THis year, the lady that would make them decided to retire. Well, my wife and I decided that it was too good of a tradition to let die, so we made them ourselves. We made 13 dozen - took half a day. Hopefully, we will get more efficient later on.
They were good though.

Make them yourself - you can add more meat so they aren't as dry. Actually, I don;t recommend that anyone do it - it's a pain in the ass.

I LOVE that place. Haven't been in a while tho. The first 4 or 5 times I went, I was too stuffed for dessert. Then we started going JUST for the dessert. Yummy! :|:
Only the guys and me home tonight, Christmas Eve. I was busy baking and such so I told them they needed to fix dinner. They remembered some frozen Little Caesar's pizza leftover from a pizza & movie Scout night. Bleaghhhhhh!
I just found out a good combo though: good, soft black licorice and this white (blush?) wine.

I try but its a joint effort, most times we do ok. :)
Last night we had jumbo prawns with garlic butter, white rice and another thai mandarin salad, the inlaws were over for the eve.
Then for snacks we made jalapeno poppers, cheese, garlic coil and crackers, veggies and dip, some chips and then later a nice piece of Stliton with Port.
Only surprise was that pops in law bought a bottle of white wine port, he didnt realize it till I opened and poured a glass. :)
Was a good night.
Happy new year y'all!
So far, so good. Trying to eat a bit leaner. I sure wish I could wean my family from Friday night pizza....they're gone tonight so I had a LEAN hamburger and a big salad.

edit: actually the last few months I have been walking Bub (almost) each day, I guess that counts as a bit of cardio work, a brisk pace but nowhere near jogging. Tonight was the annual Wildlife Club wild game feed. Venison, Elk, Turkey, Pheasant and a few other road kills. A good time was had by all. They give away a couple of 870 Rem. shotguns and various other prizes in a landowner appreciation drawing. I invested in the future of hunting, no wins though.
The brisk walk to and from the event in -15F temps helped build the appetite and tempered the "sody pop" that was consumed with the meal. All in all a great night.

hmm, I made pancakes for breakfast, just had lunch, made a leftovers hash of sorts. Some roast potatoes from last nights dinner, chopped up garlic coil from new years eve, tomato, spinach, broccoli, green pepper, red onion, few red pepper flakes, crack of sea salt, crack of black pepper, fry it up in a pan with a bit of olive oil, BAM, more room in the fridge. :)
And a big glass of water to make sure I felt full. :P
Dinner might be a take on jambalaya but over noodles instead of with rice. A perversion of this (Fusilli New Orleans (http://www.antonspastabar.com/dinner.htm)) recipe.

Its a deceptively large bowl, it might even be a little bit magic! I had to keep the other stuff to potato ratio at a certain point as they were the limited commodity. It tasted good, thats for sure.

Just cleaned up a mess of chicken wings, saving those to cook up during the football game later, then likely a bit of pizza at suppertime.
For the wings I will dress some in sea salt and pepper, some in honey garlic sauce, some in BBQ sauce and of course some for me, in a hot sauce mix. I had been just splashing Louisiana hot sauce or some other such product on them but I saw a cooking show he other week and they took a bit of butter and melted it in to a small pot of Franks Red Hot, I tried it, I like it! :D

I bought a big package of frozen Stouffer's Lasagana when it was on sale a few months ago (serves 12, $7.50) I asked some ladies that were grabbing them up if they were good. They said they were.
I cooked it last night. They were wrong.

Calzone from a different pizza joint than my usual place. The last few pizzas from Anthony's have been awfully skimpy with little sauce and less cheese. They have also been burnt (cooking faster due to less ingredients). I'm on the hunt for a new pizza place and this one isn't bad. Their pizza is just ok but their calzone is quite good.

Rotisserie chicken from the grocery store deli. It's messy but slightly better for me than the fried chicken. According to the scales by the store entrance, I'm almost as heavy as I've ever been in my life, almost 190. Back when I was climbing full time and drinking my dinner I stayed around 165-170. I was actually down to about 175 at one point last year but all the down time has resulted in me putting on weight. :(
I had 2 toasted tuna with lettuce sandwiches. Not real good actually. For some reason tuna with oil instead of with water was in stock, and it was a little gross. Pepperidge Farm milanos for desert. Those were tasty.
I was a manager there for 5 years. I ain't jealous! ;)

John has been eating the dolphin we caught over the weekend with a new twist:
Equal parts of mango chutney and ketchup mixed together and painted on the fish
Add a dash of blackening seasoning to the fish
Cook in a very hot cast iron skillet
Yum (even I liked the taste I took)
Now, the skillet is a bear to clean after cooking. I put water in it and put it on the stove to loosen up the goop!
